Seedy Gonzales dropped their debut self-titled EP one year ago in January of 2005. Since then, the band comprised of an ex-pat from Prague who sings like Lou Reed, a New York filmmaker who sings like Lou Barlow, and a whole lot of influence from The Velvet Underground, The Kinks, and Screamin' Jay Hawkins, have gone on to record more songs than can fit within the constraints of the compact disc format.
Thus the second EP installment, Bird That Sings, is available as a digital exclusive release. Available only for download, the digital release will be followed by the release of Seedy Gonzales' debut full length in the early summer of 2006
“You’ve heard Lou Reed’s influences through rock and roll, but how often do you hear the sounds of The Bells and Sally Can’t Dance rather than the Velvet Underground and Nico? Not only is Seedy Gonzales’ “Page 28” a great tune, but its reference point is refreshing.”

“Seedy Gonzales turn out rock ‘n’ roll street poetry Lou Reed style"

“I don’t know. Lou Reed-ish. This reminds me of Jim Carrol’s People Who Died”

Met Jason in L.A., marix tex-mex marguerites, falafels on Fairfax, Hollywood flash and filigree, Hillhurst bars, lots of music, but no talk of a band, no glimmer. Met Brian through Jason, saw him play at the Roxy, still no talk of a band. And there wouldn’t be for a long time to come. Jason and Brian ducked out of L.A., Don’t remember exactly when, though do remember helping pack a car. Thought I’d never leave (goes to show how wrong you can be).
Caught up with Jason one winter in Chicago, stayed long enough to empty my mom’s fridge and beat it down to New Orleans, bloody bloody marys, shrimp po’ boys, pool at checkpoint Charlie’s, cigarettes, Jane’s Alley, mushrooms, the continental drifters. Jason ended up moving there. I ended up back in L.A., found and lost another job, best reason for a road trip, Bob Dylan the whole 36 hours, hello New Orleans. That’s when Jason first banged out this music swimmin’ round in his head n’ I started singin’ along.
Jason moved to New York (think he lived there once before), hooked up with Brian again. I found and lost a couple more jobs in Prague, along the way started writing down words, shared some with Jason who fashioned them a melody and shared them with brain. Brian liked what he heard (I guess) and got us into the studio. Jack played with us then, time was short, three songs etched onto magnetic tape, sad songs, broken hearts n’ broken lives, echoes from the world we’ve been walking through. It was fun so we did it again, digital, more songs this time, not all the echoes sad. I figure that’s when maybe we were a band.
Jack left. George and Ladell thought it might be fun (I guess), a couple gigs—as in 2—and a whole lot more studio time. There’s a rumor ‘bout a CD of new material… hey hey, my my, rock n’ roll will never die.
