In the beginning, Butow Maler was already involved with the German project, KAMMER SIEBEN, and had just released the first album ('Unfinished Movies') on the well-respected Eis&Licht label. Troy Southgate, meanwhile, had been a vocalist with the Anglo-Dutch group, H.E.R.R., since 2003 and had worked on two albums ('The Winter of Constantinople' & 'Vondel's Lucifer'), an EP ('Fire & Glass: A Norwood Tragedy') and a series of collaborations with the likes of Horologium, Survival Unit, Sistrenatus and Erich Zahn. Butow eventually got in touch with Troy to see if he would like to provide vocals for a forthcoming KAMMER SIEBEN track. The mutual appreciation between the two parties eventually resulted in 'Love's Final Hour', a Gothic murder ballad featuring vocals by Troy and Maria Southgate. Butow then sent Troy several additional pieces of music that he had composed with Herr Twiggs, something which led to a highly-productive Spring period in which a total of fourteen songs were eventually written and recorded. The emergence of SEELENLICHT in May 2007, therefore, was not a preconceived development and the group evolved gradually as a direct result of the enthusiasm, commitment and creativity that went into it. The trio's energy and dynamism soon attracted the attention of Justin Mitchell from Cold Spring Records and plans were made to release the songs in September 2007 on a debut SEELENLICHT album, entitled 'Gods & Devils'. The group has just recorded a track ('Memnon, Prince of Ethiopia') for a forthcoming compilation album, 'Aithiopis', and are already beginning work on their second album. SEELENLICHT will also donate a track ('Dreamsleep') to an Attrition tribute album and, in the meantime, the song 'Demian' has been included on a widely distributed Gothic double-CD compilation entitled '13th Street - the Sound of Mystery, Vol. 4', featuring well-known artists like Type O Negative, Paradise Lost and Nightwish.

Poem 2 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): WALKABOUT WITH MY PEN
Once drove an old sedan, up north, From a place in Sydney to Cairns; Then to Kuranda I went forth, By train, to look without set plans.
I browsed through the trendy market, With fresh fruits of tropical kind; Walked to the creek through lush thicket - Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.
I dined in a scenic cafe; Then, outside, as I wrote for yen, Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey, You go walkabout with your pen.”
Request or question, I don’t know - Assured voices, elderly men. That’s now several years ago, And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.

Many thanks for the add. Gods and Devils is a very impressive record - 'The Modern Saxons' is a particular stand-out track. Wishing you all the best from Melbourne... regards Ewan
I was first drawn to Seelenlicht through your track "She Walks in Beauty" - a favourite poem of mine. After hearing your version of this and "Damian" I was looking forward to hearing the whole "Gods & Devils" CD very much.
I must say it exceeded all of my very high expectations - what a truly marvellous disc it is. So many of the ideas expressed are in tune with my own thoughts and fantasies.
And how nice to hear an English artist "owning" his Saxon heritage rather than the rather dubious claims to Celtic ancestry that we see so often.
In order to make your more melancholic moods a pleasure, L'Horrible Passion from Barcelona and Art Abscon have joined their inspiration and created a "Chant Solitaire" for you to enjoy.
You will find it on our players this weekend.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of founding the project with you, Sagittarius is proud to offer a special download release for free.
"Fragmente II" was originally released as a strictly limited CD-R in November 2006 and contained five pieces of neoclassical music, plus a cover-version of 'Little Black Angel' by DEATH IN JUNE. This download version also includes a special bonus song recorded for this exclusive occasion – a new setting of Ludwig van Beethoven's 'Moonlight Sonata, First Movement', including the poem "Sonnet VI (On The First Movement of Beethoven's 'Moonlight Sonata')", written by Count Eric Stenbock and recited by our dear friend Troy Southgate.
To download this release, which also includes a full printable CD-artwork, feel free to visit the download section of Sagittarius's official homepage at http://www.sagittarius.de.
Something strange has happened, something very rare and unique. The eerie GRANDMASTER ABSCON and the wonderful GLORIOUS MAIDEN have met under curious circumstances and shared an instant of ingenious inspiration. Yes, it was peculiar… but they recorded a song, and it was OH SO BEAUTIFUL.
Please be welcome, and lend us your ear. The song will be on our players this weekend only and released later this year.
