You heard The Voice on The Reelists critically acclaimed hit Freak Mode and So Solid smashes So Grimy and Broken Silence; now meet its owner. South London born and bred singer/ songwriter Sef is set to become one of the UK's brightest R&B stars when he releases his debut solo album. With a piercingly sweet and utterly distinctive vocal, Sef is one of the finest talents working in British music today. Combining perceptive songwriting skills, outstanding vocal composition and an ear for complex melody lines, Sef will soon be the name on every music lovers lips.
Making his name initially as one half of The Reelists, and as a frequent collaborator with So Solid, Sef decided to take the solo route after The Reelists parted ways in 2003. Spending several months sharpening his pen by ghost-writing for some of the UK's biggest pop acts, the 28 year old was sought out by Atlantic Records who recognized his exceptional abilities. For his debut, Sef has written or co-written every track; tales of hood life, haters and heartbreak inform the album as Sef breaks down the British experience. I write songs that people can really relate to. I had 100% creative control on this album, so this is me - a dude from the UK who has listened, lived and breathed R&B his whole life. After falling in love with his brothers extensive R&B collection as an 8 year old, Sef was determined to create a record that could sit next to any of the greats. Working with a transatlantic team ensured an excellence and distinctiveness rarely seen
from a UK urban artist. When you go to America you gotta school them where you're from you don't give them what they've already got. So this is a UK album that is R&B at a level that we should have reached here years ago. We need to be setting a higher level of greatness here- we need to be writing about better topics, doing better riffs, create amazing melodies.
For years we have been waiting for an urban UK artist who will not only break music boundaries in England, but the world over.
