About me:
I hate writing this stuff, it makes me feel like I'm writing a job application. I'm a lazy writer, but getting better with the writing and the laziness. Working on a novel and a couple of comics projects, hoping for success because I'm sick of the 9-5. It's no way to live. When I'm old I want to live by the sea in Sicily as a recluse. People annoy me anyway, most of the time, especially people who lean over the end of shopping trolleys and girls who walk quickly with their arms folded. I hate stupidity, in myself and other people. I like honesty, directness and open-mindednes in people. I hate where I live. It's too cold and too wet too often. I'm always hungry for something better and more mind-expanding in everything I do.
Who I'd like to meet:
Angelina Jolie. Isabel Lucas. Yummy. NATALIE PORTMAN. PERFECTION...

Oh and btw, I realise I forgot your birthday. Please forgive me, o' Glaswegian one. I still have your cake here, but it's looking a bit past its sell-by date...

Hey John, I posted a link at the BHF forum for Chris, the guy who runs it. He was interested in submitting art to this comic I'm involved with.

Would you be interested in submitting some written stuff?
Jed

Jul 1 2008 7:08 PM

Ya know what, I didn't rate the guy. He came from this post-manga, post-Image comics tradition that I don't have much time for.

But aye, he was sick for years, apparently.
And nobody should go that young :(

GRRRR...bastard celebrities with their unjustifiably large USV's!!! Scum. [although i shouldnt talk...I did make a couple and will be making more trans atlantic flights :s eeep].

That house is GORGEOUS. Such a shame its a self catering lodge. I stayed in a self catering once, up in orkney [the island of my nerdy history dreams come true], and it had the most amazing shower ever, complete with slate floor and underfloor heating.

The new gal is at the lib is also a canuck, yaay. but when we converse I can totally hear how my accent has adopted a glaswegian melody, which will make me ultra super cool when I return home for a visit.

Oh, the craft market is tomorrow if you are interested in popping by...though my stuff is quite girly...but there will be stuff for males as well. Its at QMU starting noon ending at five.
Later on

Yeah, it's alright, innit? Seem like a decent bunch'a people.

I'll look over the Christabel stuff you sent me way back when, and start thinking over what the characters should look like. Any ideas?

Just had an email from Alan Grant. The strip we'd knocked up between us, 'Lust in Space', has been dropped from the mag. Now I don't mind that (even if it looks like I won't get paid for the artwork I've already done) because he's already conceiving another strip for me. But do you know on what basis the strip was dropped? A random selection of women whom he asked thought it was SEXIST.

Literally half a dozen women think the strip is 'sexist', and so it gets dropped. Is this the great Alan Grant we're talking about, trying to appease every minority of people? Jesus. 2000AD would have gone tits up in no time had he been so 'touchy-feely' back in 1981. How times change...

Let's kickstart 'Christabel' again, shall we...?

Jun 15 2008 12:17 AM

Hmmm...never tried the Crowely version, looks gorgeous. Nor have I tried i-ching...Im ashamed! I steer clear of complicated devinations, because I'm still screwing up the simple ones. I have a good friend at home who uses the deck of rider-waite i bought him, and he is very talented at it. I usually ask him to read my fortune than myself, because he is clear and articulate...also when I read my own it tends to say nasty things about me :S Were your cards a gift or did you buy them for yourself? Ive often heard tell that cards given as a gift reveal optimitic fortunes and generally work better for the teller, where as cards bought for oneself are often difficult to deal with. I had asked mine as a gift from somebody...so i guess thats kind of a gray spot...or maybe im just shit at it...hahaha.

Jun 13 2008 6:51 AM

HA! Yes...as well as Conan the Librarian, although Im not allowed to wear my metal, fur, and skins ensemble to work. But I'm armed with my large 4-week Loan stampers [i'm not joking...I somehow smashed my pinky in one the other day during a frantic, fast-paced stamping extravaganza and it was dreadful!].

Oh, I was going to ask you if you read tarot [as i see it on your interest blurb]. thought that was rather interesting as I read tarot [well, not really...I'm shit at it and cheat and use the book everytime].

I might add, that I'm slightly trepidatious imagining reading all those Conan stories might turn me into a fan of these guys:

Apr 29 2008 11:55 AM

I'll have a look on eBoob. You can find pretty much anything on there!

Having never been a fan of fantasy in general, I think that book will more than sate any lingering curiosity. I'm not arsed in reading any Conan stuff REH didn't write himself. I say that, but you never know ;)

If you do get that book at any point, wait 'til it's cheap.
Just last week it was £19! I thought I'd best get it while it had dropped a few quid :p
Jed

Apr 29 2008 10:34 AM

Finally ordered that Conan book, yesterday. All of R. E. Howard's stories, hardback, 925 pages. Just imagine the size of this fucker:

Apr 28 2008 1:22 PM

Oh, oh, oh, and M.R. James, too!! I was surprised to realise 'Casting the Runes' is only about ten pages long.
Even I could have that read in an evening!! :D
Jed

Apr 28 2008 1:19 PM

I've heard of 'Quills'. Isn't Kate Winslet in it. Yeah, she's a bit of alright, I'll give it a go :D

I've read Poe, Stoker, Shelley, Twain, Verne, Conan Doyle, but will be giving them another skwizz. Also on the list are H.G. Wells, O. Henry, Sax Rohmer, Ambrose Bierce and yup, Lovecraft. I'm gonna pick up that giant Conan collection, too. Some of the authors you mention, I've never heard of, but I'll look into them.

I have a lot to plough through!! :0
Jed

Apr 28 2008 1:21 AM

You're a well-read chap, John. Who are your preferred authors?

I've decided I don't read enough, and am drawing up a list. I'm partway through 'Carmilla' by J.S. Le Fanu. Try as I might though, I can't get the images of a cavorting Indrid and Maddy out of my head.
Not that that's necessarily a bad thing ;)
Jed

Apr 21 2008 10:36 AM

Cool.
I hope you can make it!! Happy

Yeah, you really should check out the honey that left my last two comments, LOL. Kind of a cross between Kelly Brook and Rachel Bilson, I thought.

Mar 17 2008 11:23 AM

OH NOOO!!

Okay, so for the benefit of my Photobucketically-challenged chums (and you), it's an 11-inch...

CLOCK.

It's octagonal, with what looks like a wood finish around the edge. Nothing special so far, you might think, but it has poster art from 'The Masque of the Red Death' on the face, including that blood-red, Daliesque image of Vincent's face, made up of contorting figures. It's proper ace, dude!!

Dunno if it's an original piece of merch (circa 1964) or a recent production, but it's gunna look SLAMMIN' on my wall so it is, I tell thee!! :D
Jed

Mar 16 2008 4:02 AM

Holy crap, dude, how cool is this??

Photobucket

Spotted it just now on eBay, with five mins left. Only cost £7.50, but with £14 international postage, nearly. Still, couldn't not have it, LOL... :D
