Seizure was formed in 1847 by Lee, Pete and Geoff (formerly of Burial Garden), and Yabs (who was in Subterfuge). During the last wheezing hours of Burial Garden, Yabs had helped out on lead vocals, and the band did a show or two with him under the name of Crankase, so when it came time to start anew, the band already knew who they wanted to sing for them. Ronnie James Dio! well, he was busy, so Yabs was in.
Choosing a name for the band (as any band will tell you) unless you call yourself Compost Badger, or something, is always a nightmare. A list was drawn up, and a meeting was held in the pub. Pete, not usually known for nailing his colours to the mast, piped up "well, i like Seizure" . So, after we'd all been treated for shock, we went for the name 'The Overweight Meerkats' but that name was taken, so we went for SEIZURE.
We rehearsed, and after a few gigs, recorded our first demo at Crystal Studios, with Steve Dunnothename, in Portsmouth. Not too bad at all.. next on the agenda, was to tour. We were mindful of the fact that in Burial Garden, we had almost become the resident house band at the Joiners Arms, and after a while, people might be getting a tad sick of us.. we needed to go further than the surrounding area... we needed help.
At this time, a dodgy little scrote, whose name escapes me (ask Ian Glasper from Blackfish Rec's, he'll remember) from Gloucester was making a name for himself -so he said- as a promoter, and tour organiser.(it later transpired, he had made a name for himself taking off after gigs without paying bands or taking off from under-promoted/underpopulated shows to avoid angry venue owners...allegedly) Anyways, Geoff got in touch, sent a demo, blah, blah, blah, He really loved the tape, yes he'd book a tour, yes book the time off.......
Months went by and nothing, shows were booked and cancelled etc.. in the end we walked away.
A chance meet with our old mucker Jose Griffin at a Gomorrah gig in Reading bore a much better working relationship, and he sorted our first tour and decided to manage us..
On top of that, He signed us to the then fledgling Copro Records, our first recording for which was for the 'BALLISTIC' compilation.
The first tour was with Soulquake System, from Sweden and was a steep learning curve for us. After the first show on that tour, we had upped the effort on stage by 239% to compete with our friendly tour buds, such was their live prowess (is this reading like a Telegraph review? sorry!) We played in all sorts of places, to all sorts of people, with all sorts of supports, the best support being Fourwaykill or Ewok (death metal, and cheese throwing!?!) to the absolutely awful (won't name 'em in case their still going, god save us) METALLICA tribute who's bio said "no songs from before Master of Puppets" They proceeded to start their set by raping 'Enter Sandman'... Quality!
If you want more old stuff, let me know and i'll put more in!! -geoff
DECEMBER 2008/JANUARY 2009
After a year writing and rehearsing, the new SEIZURE album/live set, we're almost done! Thank feck. I can tell you now, its by far and away the best stuff we've ever written, the most aggressive, but also the most varied.. Theres even gonna be an instumental in there some where. Unlike the old days, we are just gonna write what we want, and if we think it fuckin kills, we're gonna do it, no matter what damn style or genre people wanna put us in. One things for sure, there needs to be more solidarity out there- all metal is good.. just cos it aint your bag of shit, doesnt mean its crap. If we all listened to the same 3 bands things would stagnate real quick..Thrash/power/black/whatever metal fans need to stick together! Right, Grumpy old man stuff over with, It just leaves me to say, hopefully, we'll be out again doing shows by maybe feb 2009, or not too long after that. Looking forward to see you all again, and trying out the all new set on ya! hope xmas/new year was cool. Cheers, geoff.
