Although Selby Mills LeMaire is more or less a baby band, readying its self-titled debut this week, the harmony-rich trio still has an edge over most new acts. Individually, its members are responsible for some 20 No. 1 songs.
The band's three principals — songwriters Mark Selby, Clay Mills and Sonny LeMaire, who've penned chart-toppers for the likes of Diamond Rio and the Dixie Chicks — started writing together about three years ago and quickly noticed an unmistakable chemistry in the writing room. The result of that chemistry — Selby Mills LeMaire, the release of which will be celebrated Saturday at The Listening Room — showcases each writer's musical roots and their unique combined abilities with a pen.
"I see it as a mix between a funky group like The Subdudes and Crosby Stills Nash & Young," said Selby, who also has a career as a rock and blues artist. "We have a definite approach to recording, and sonically, it's somewhere between that . . . I think there are a lot of people out there looking for great music that is fresh and new that has touchstones to a lot of their favorite music from the past. I think we've made that by a happy accident."

Hey Guys, Had to stop by and tell you that the last couple of times my grands have been over, I've played your CD. Dyed eggs today with them and had the SML CD on in the background. Next thing I know the 2 year old (Gracie) is singing along..."shakin' and a swingin' that thing and a ringin' my bell!" OMG! It was hilarious! Happy Easter! Donita :o)
