The Selfish Gene plays their own brand of three-piece transaccidental guitar rock a la Built to Spill, Modest Mouse & Pavement. The band was voted Best Overall Artist at the 2006 Madison Area Music Awards and has shared the stage with such acts as Bon Iver, Kings of Leon, Califone, Cloud Cult, the Von Bondies, the Waco Brothers, the Redwalls, and Blue Oyster Cult. The Selfish Gene was featured by Triple-M radio at the previous two years of the SoCo Music Experience, playing alongside such progressive artists as The Flaming Lips, Cold War Kids, the Black Keys & the Roots.
The Selfish Gene’s latest album, The Grand Masquerade, was well-received by critics around the nation. The band received a nationally published review in Performing Songwriter magazine, was featured as Artist of the Day on Spin.com and National Public Radio, and received dozens of online reviews at such popular sites as Paste.com and VH1’s Best Week Ever.
"Songs that are both delicately introspective and explosively grand." - National Public Radio
"Like how a gene is rich with assorted genetic materials, the band’s sound is a composite of influences ranging as far back as ELO to the more modern Spoon." - SPIN.com
"If you like Spoon, you might dig this new band The Selfish Gene." - VH1's Best Week Ever
"A memorable album that has more smarts, soul and just plain fun than most of what's considered "pop" these days." - Wisconsin State Journal
“The Selfish Gene unfurls a wave of melodic indie pop – think Spoon, Cloud Cult and Okkervil River – that’s sure to light up the stage.” - The Isthmus

I wanted to share an insight that I had recently. Blood Root Mother really believe in the power of music. Genuine music transcends all limitations and boundaries, and happens when musicians and listeners are communicating with one another on the deepest level possible. In a society overcome by an obsession with flashy images and stale radio hits, we seek to do something that shakes the foundation of the status quo. Since the dawn of human civilization, music has been about sharing humanity and truly connecting with others. So stay connected with us, and join us on our journey.
Peace, Elliot
The artistic activity does not lie in art itself as such. It penetrates into a deeper world in which all art forms flow together, and in which the harmony of soul and cosmos in the nothing has its outcome in reality. -Bruce Lee

Next week we will have a mArching band of Baby White Elephants making blindfolded vegan omelets with flamethowers full of liquid nitrogen...Kind of like a homicidal Gallagher show on acid...then next week it's the magic that only Kat Klix can bring with their feline quasi-furry musical act debuting their new CD and with a guest appearance by their sister band Dog Dix. Don't miss this night it will change yer life...
