Asalaamu Alaikum! My name is Selina, for those of you who do not know me. I am a Muslimah and proud! I'm a California girl, but I just moved to London for Grad school and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT HERE! Who I'd like to meet:
Well...Everybody!!! Especially muslimah sisters...and brothers (as long as you're here to talk about Islam or other things about life and not to try and date me).
I'm not on myspace to get a date. I don't date, I'm a muslim. The man I go out with will be the man I marry Insha'allah. Sorry guys. (I write this because I've gotten a lot of requests and comments like "you're hot!"....if that is the kind of attention I wanted to get I would not be wearing a hijab, now would I?)
Oh yeah, and I also like meeting non-muslims who are cool and open-minded and interested in learning about Islam or about muslims or who just want to be friends. I think it's really cool to be friends with people from other faiths because it opens up a dialogue and lets us learn to understand one another better, hopefully resulting in a more peaceful environment in this world. I think a lot of Muslims like to stay in their comfort zone and just hang out and talk with other muslims...which is cool, because like any other group, those are your peers, the ones who are understanding and accepting of you, but on the other hand, I also think it's of upmost importance to breed an understanding between Muslims and non-muslims. One of my goals in life...INSHA'ALLAH....is to teach as many people as possible, what Islam is REALLY about and clear up the misconceptions that the media has created. Hatred is NOT COOL....for anybody. Before I wore the hijab (which by the way, was a very recent development in my life) I would go around and hear people talking trash about muslims...sometimes to me, and little did they know that I was one of the people they were talking about. One of the deciding factors in my starting to wear the scarf was the notion that nobody would take me seriously as a muslim unless I lived the life and walked with my head held high as a muslim every single day, (not to mention the guilt of NOT wearing the scarf was getting at me, lol). I put on the scarf of my OWN FREE WILL and it was the BEST decision I ever made.
