Stevie Wonder, without question, is among my largest influences. I grew up listening to Elton John, Michael Jackson, ABBA, the Beatles, Tina Turner, Gypsy Kings, Fleetwood Mac, and the BeeGees, later Enigma, Deep Forest, still Michael Jackson....... More recently, I've developed a great appreciation for artists like Dwele, Lauryn Hill, Outkast, Musiq Soulchild, Mos Def and my brothers El-Mahdi and Salah. Oh yes, and I can't deny my obsession (my mother's doing) with Mariah Carey that lasted from around the age of 8 to 16 when she'd shifted her musical direction.
Being that life is constant change, one's biography must change (be updated, rather). So in the spirit of change, let me update those who care with the current events of my life. I am experiencing much change in my life. Some good, some great...because any change is positive even when it appears otherwise. My work may not necessarily reflect this as it is difficult to keep up with immediate obstacles, but rest assure that there can and will be more positive material (a variation, at best) available for your listening pleasure:) I will not lie and claim that it is a small struggle. I am no pessimist. I am no optimist. I do know that it is quite the undertaking to vie against negativity...so I am here...as a victim of it, as a parasite then as a contender and finally (and ideally) as a victor.
Thank you all for your ongoing support and for the constant inspiration that you all serve me. Keep on...Blessings. -Selma
