From auspicious beginnings in the drummer’s garage, to jamming in rehearsal studios, recording demos at the singer’s home studio and doing time on MTV, playing at the Hifi Bar and the Esplanade Hotel, Semper Fi has gone from strength to strength.
The current line-up consisting of singer Tom, drummer Mark, bassist Shaun, rhythm guitar Heath, and lead guitar David was formed in August 2007. Each member hails from different musical backgrounds and encompasses a wide range of influences from funk to blues, from hard rock to grunge. This is most evident in their live performances, as they often 'genre hop' from song to song. Nevertheless, their sets never sound disjointed as they have synthesized their many styles into a consistent sound that rings through each and every song to create an entertaining live experience that keeps the audience always at their toes.
At the heart of Semper Fi is the friendship between its members. No matter how often the lead guitarist is late for rehearsal (always), or the singer wears his flamboyant t-shirts (with holes in them), or the bassist insists on a smoke break (despite being the only smoker), or the rhythm guitarist complains about something (like his 'sound'), or the drummer decides to speed up the song gradually as they play, there is always an easy-going and relaxed atmosphere when these guys are together. Like a jigsaw puzzle, despite their different backgrounds and personalities, each member forms an integral piece of the musical mosaic that is Semper Fi.
