Semtex Vest got it's start in late 2005. Christian and Ruben formerly of DEAD AMERICA (90's OC punk superheros / Costa Mesa troublemakers) which featured John Haddad (ex-PHOBIA and current FINAL CONFLICT) called it quits in 2003. Kent, long time Dead America Fan and wannabe Costa Mesa Troublemaker, had been playing drums for years with Sludgecore giants, MANGE, which featured Todd K (DYSTOPIA) and Bruce R. (PHOBIA). After the demise of Dead America, Christian and Ruben had spent nearly two years trying to fufill their self fufilled prophecy later known as Semtex Vest. After two years of unsuccessful collaboration and many sleepless nights of depression, it finally dawned on Christian to give old friend "Kent" a call. Having been in MANGE for almost 9 years and only playing 3 shows, kent accepted the invitation with open arms (No disrespect....Mange was a great band, we all lived too far apart). The timing couldn't have been better. Mange disbanded several days after Christian gave Kent a call and thus, Semtex Vest was born. We all had our visions of what Semtex Vest would become.....Kent wanted to make melodic D-beat hardcore, Ruben wanted to show off his one handed drum rolls and backwards blast beats, by virtue of a crushing grindcore band. Christian wanted to fufill his fantasies of playing Fear, 7-seconds, and Dead Kennedy cover songs, coupled with his undying desire to play 80's glam, hair metal. THE RESULT.......SEMTEX VEST. It's been about a year and a half and we have played about 6 shows and have enough material for a full length. However, we have decided not to do a full length and release the material in several split albums. The first one coming soon with Comedian Grinders SABU.
Despite our full time work schedules, 6 kids between us (they call us the fathers of grindcore for a reason), and our relentless mixed martial arts training schedules, we still manage time to practice once per week and play some shows here and there. A west coast mini tour is in the works for this fall/ winter with SABU....more to come!!!
