The Senator Theatre (circa 1939) is Baltimore's beloved 900 seat art-deco movie house
(listed on the National Register of Historic Places) equipped with renowned state-of-the-art
projection and sound. USA Today, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, API, UPI,
Entertainment Weekly, Fortune Magazine, US News & World Report, Reueters, CBS News,
CNN, ABC News, The History Channel, E! Entertainment, The National Trust for Historic
Preservation and The National Mainstreet Center have all designated The Senator as
one of the very best independent historic movie houses in the nation. For additional

As a high-profile focal point for Maryland's vibrant motion picture production industry,
The Senator Theatre has hosted the World Premieres of John Waters' CRY-BABY, HAIRSPRAY,
SERIAL MOM, PECKER & CECIL B. DEMENTED; Barry Levinson's DINER, TIN MEN, AVALON,
and LIBERTY HEIGHTS; as well as the Maryland and World Premieres of scores of other
feature films. Acclaimed actor Edward Norton holds benefit premieres of his feature films
at The Senator Theatre including PRIMAL FEAR, EVERYONE SAYS I LOVE YOU,
ROUNDERS, KEEPING THE FAITH, THE SCORE, RED DRAGON and FRIDA.
In addition, over the years The Senator has hosted a variety of special events with notable
celebrities as Guests of Honor, including Muhammad Ali; acclaimed cinematographer Allen
Daviau; directors Robert Altman, Frank Capra, Nora Ephron, Terry Gilliam, Agnieszka Holland,
Norman Jewison, David Mamet, Sydney Pollack, Robert Wise and the production/direction team

Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Squeeze, and Bruce Cockburn.
During its operation, The Senator has been used to raise millions
of dollars for local and national charitable organizations.
High profile events at The Senator Theatre include the traditional unveiling of
colorful commemorative sidewalk block (currently over 100) in the expanding
"Sidewalk of the Stars" in front of the theatre that display the imprinted signatures
of the Guests of Honor, the logo of the film and the date of the special event.
As a multi-purpose entertainment facility The Senator offers eclectic, diverse film
programming showcasing first-run films, art/specialty films, and revival classics,
all professionally presented in a state-of-the-art manner on the largest screen
in the region that is always masked to present each film in its optimal ratio.
