"Take the atmospheric 'Losing My Way' for example...some of the most intrinsic vocal harmonising this side of 'Scarborough Fair' ensure it's status as a worthy successor to BRMC's 'In Like The Rose' is secured."

"an adept nonchalence that many bands of an older stature spend years trying to achieve. And there you have it. The Senses - definitely ones to watch out for." (Dom Gourlay, Drowned in Sound)

Golden Sophoric tones to watch the sunset to (Lamacq - One Music, Radio 1)

Senses provided yet more irresistibly tuneful gems. Following the same kitchen sink approach to crafting perfect guitar pop which won Teenage Fanclub critical acclaim" (Simon Harper, BBC Website)
***
Senses lured me into their cradle of charming harmonies. The vocals simmer like a little fire on a giant lake of melody on my favourite track, Truly Beautiful Disaster. Self explanatory. And their influences include Stone Roses, which means that I'm sold. Senses have a knack for making sound that breaks apart but doesn't wither - it's disphoric yet comforting, and so fragile every chord feels like it could break apart in depth - like fractals. (The Hype Machine)
***
SENSES- Dense narcotic rocknroll like BRMC or late JAMC..pretty much along the sleaze rockin' lines of anyone abrieviate-able in a leather jacket (Bugbear)
***
Senses let their songs do the talking. They look good but don't overdo the rock 'n' roll demeanour. The swagger is in the music, not the pose, as if they know how good they are and don't feel the need to spit out attitude (Tony Foster, BH One)

It's a pleasant suprise to see a Coventry band on the former label of The Young Knives and Elf Power, but where these groups play trippy indiepop and angular art-rock, Senses are indebted to the heroes of classic British indie. Drifting's lavish, chiming melodies might owe a considerable nod to the sound of the 90's Manchester, but you couldn't wish for a more melodic trip down memory lane. (Karl Cremin, The Fly)

Senses received national airplay with the release of their debut single ‘Drifting’ on pioneering label Shifty Disco. The track received national airplay and was championed by the BBC’s Janice Long. Senses recorded a live session for Janice Long’s show on Radio 2.
Senses are influenced by bands they grew up listening to; a mixture of strong songs and experimental sounds. They describe their sound as being ‘epic, euphoric, sometimes melancholic’ – they approach music with the belief that music is the soundtrack to your life. The juxtaposition doesn’t stop there with their soul-aching, heart-soaring sound.
Vocalist and guitarist Brian Callan , bass player Ronan O’Connor, guitarist Kevin Kavanagh and drummer and vocalist Ian Finnegan grew up listening to music together and this inevitably led to them writing and playing their own songs.
In 2006 Senses were featured on BBC Radio 1’s unsigned chart and spent several months in the top 10. Local gigs saw their fan base grow and Senses supported the likes of Kasabian, Cosmic Rough Riders and South.
With reviews on Drowned In Sound saying Senses were ‘ones to watch’ Senses built upon their growing reputation the only way they know how, by letting the music do the talking.
In 2007 Senses released ‘Drifting’ on Shifty Disco (The Young Knives, Elf Power, Scouting for Girls) and the track went on to be the labels biggest selling download. Reviews in national publications such as The Fly further helped bring the band to a national audience.
With gigs around the UK at venues such as: Liverpool Academy 2, The Barfly (Liverpool), Bar Academy (Birmingham), The Kasbah (Coventry), The Vic (Derby), The Charlotte (Leicester), The Custard Factory (Birmingham) and The Dublin Castle (London) Senses set about spreading the word about their music.
July 2007 saw Senses feature on the front of national paper The Irish Post with an article tipping the band for a bright future.
In November 2007 Senses recorded with renowned producer Gavin Monaghan (Editors, The Twang, Bloc Party) and recorded the first two tracks of what will be their debut album.
The tracks were passed to Clint Boon (XFM, Inspiral Carpets) and he proceeded to play ‘Drop Your Arms’ on his XFM show. The band won XFM uploaded band of the week and went on to be win the accolade for XFM band of the month which led Clint Boon to invite the band in to record a session for his show and predict ‘You’re gonna hear a lot more from these in 2008!’
Senses are set to return to the studio with Gavin Monaghan in July 2008 to complete their debut album. With interest already building the band aren’t rushing anything. They are set to release a limited edition double a-side on 7” vinyl.
Self-managed Senses are very much a DIY band who don’t concern themselves with the current zeitgeist but let their music do the talking.
‘We want to make classic albums that stand the test of time so we’re in no rush to ride on anyone’s coat tails or attach ourselves to any scene.’
