 l’”ORIGINAL SOUND FESTIVAL” volgerà lo sguardo sulla scena
street punk/oi, con l’esibizione in apertura dei Salad Days, dei Payback ,
degli storici The Stab e gli Attaccabrighe, che riscalderanno il cuore e gli
animi del pubblico in sala in attesa della performance del ritorno sulla scena
della line-up originaria degli SHAM69 del carismatico leader e vocalist JIMMY
PURSEY che ritorna ad esibirsi con gli storici compagni di viaggio Dave
Treganna (basso) e Dave Parsons(chitarra): fare capire la portata dell’evento
per i “non-addetti ai lavori” non è facile, può però aiutare il calendario
delle date reunion della band. Verranno fatte 4 date, a Londra (già passata, il
29 ottobre), Tokyo, Berlino e….al Laboratorio Crash di Bologna!!!

La storia dei SALAD DAYS affonda le radici nel punk italiano degli anni ’90,
di band come i N.I.A. Punx, autori di “Scendere a Sud” nel ’93, e Five Boots,
il cui sound fu caratterizzato da un furioso e veloce punk/oi, e liriche
dirette che denotavano un attitudine sincera. Da una costola di queste storiche
bands nascono i Salad Days.

I PAYBACK si formano a Roma nel 2002. I componenti della band hanno tutti alle
spalle esperienze con gruppi del calibro di Colonna Infame, Duap, Strength
Approach. Nel 2003 incidono il primo album “Keep Your Friend Close” e da subito
iniziano un intensa attivà dal vivo che li porterà a dividere il palco con
bands come Agnostic Front e Terror. Nel 2006 esce il secondo full-lenght dal
titolo “Don’t Break the Bloodapart”; un ponte tra hardcore e street punk.
Autori di un ottimo hardcore old school che abbraccia il sound newyorchese
degli anni ’80 e contraddistinto da una marcata influenza oi (vedi Colonna
Infame), il combo capitolino presenterà sul palco dello Ska Fest di Bologna il
nuovo album “Usque ad Finem”. “Stay tuned!”

Fortemente influenzati dal sound punk ’77 di gente come Clash, Stiff Little
Fingers e Ramones, gli STAB hanno saputo dare un tocco personale al punk’77,
toccando nuove tematiche in maniera creativa senza mai troppo allontanarsi
dalle sonorità delle origini. La band nasce durante gli anni d’oro del punk
italiano degli anni ’80 in quel di Bologna, ed è composta dal
cantante/chitarrista Romano Benedetti (ex Rage Punk, Hex, Nabat e Rude Pravo),
dal bassista Davide “Abbondante” Bernardi (anche lui ex Nabat) e dal batterista
Marco “Uiui”Barbieri. Nei loro 8 anni di attività la band incide “The Stab
demotape” (prodotta dalla propria etichetta 77rec.) l’ep “Punk 77” e Lp “Nessun
Ribelle” mentre in tempi recenti sfornano “Punk 77: The Stab Discography”, che
riaccenderà l’interesse su di loro e li spingerà ‘giustamente’ a ritornare
sulle scene. Bentornati!
Gli ATTACCABRIGHE nascono a Firenze nel 1996. Il sound della band è fortemente
caratterizzato dallo street punk/oi!, e da liriche rabbiose. Fieri
portabandiera di una scena skinhead antifascista e antirazzista che non ha
alcuna intenzione di chinar la testa e smettere di urlare la propria rabbia,
gli Attaccabrighe possono essere giustamente considerati i degni eredi della
scuola oi! italiana di band come Nabat e Basta.

Sono passati quasi 15 anni da quando gli SHAM69 di JIMMY PURSEY si esibirono
in quel di Bologna nell’ormai lontano 1997 insieme ad Agnostic Front e Klasse
Kriminale per “T.V.O.R. Fest”, ed il tutto venne immortalato nell’album “Live
in Italy”. Nel 2011 finalmente l’attesa è finita ed ecco la reunion della line-
up originaria che oltre a ‘sua maestà’ Jimmy Pursey comprende gli storici
compagni di viaggio, Dave Treaganna e Dave Parsons, del periodo d’oro del punk
londinese a cavallo degli anni ’76 e ’80. Ormai sembra un lontano ricordo la
traumatica separazione di qualche anno che ha visto avvicendarsi alla voce un
certo cantante biondo (TimV). Come già accennato qualche riga fa, la sigla
SHAM69 è da sempre associata alla figura di JIMMY PURSEY, vocalist e
trascinatore di folle e carismatico leader di “IF THE KIDS ARE UNITED”,
enfatico inno filo-socialista che nell’estate del ’78 suggerì a milioni di
“kids” di superare le barriere sociali e razziali che dividevano le diverse
fazioni del popolo giovanile anglosassone. Il quartetto londinese s’è sempre
distinto per la dirompente carica ed aggressività delle canzoni, per l’ampio
uso di cori ‘da stadio’ e liriche ispirate a questioni sociali, vedi “Angels
With Dirty Faces”, “Harry Up Harry”, “ Sunday Morning Nightmare”, “Ulster” solo
per citarne alcune.
Gli SHAM69 furono la prima band punk a raggiungere la top ten dei singoli in
Inghilterra verso la fine degli anni ’70, quando il singolo “HARRY UP HARRY”
tratto dal secondo album “THAT’S LIFE” del ’78 entrò nelle prime dieci
posizioni della classifica dei singoli più venduti nel Regno Unito. “That’s
life” insieme al primo e grande album “TELL US THE TRUTH” sintetizzano al
meglio lo stile del gruppo che affonda le radici in sonorità crude e nervose e
spesso cadenzate, e come già detto su, un forte uso di cori e brani di forte
denuncia. L’energia di molte canzoni fa capire perchè gli SHAM69 siano stati
così tanto amati ma anche tra le più imitate di quel periodo, infatti il loro
posto è nell’olimpo del punk ’77 insieme a Clash, Sex Pistols e Damned.
“I nostri occhi seguono le immagini di Rude Boy, una folla festante e rabbiosa
riempie Victoria Park, mentre sul palco Jimmy Pursey insieme ai Clash declama…’
white riot’, era il ’78 ma la rabbia rimane intatta ancora oggi.!”

Playing a positive-natured brand of hardcore-tinged Celtic punk, Flatfoot 56 has been unleashing itself upon America and the rest of the world for over 10 years now. Forming in 2000, the Chicago natives achieved nationwide attention with their first two label-backed records, 2006’s Knuckles Up and 2007’s Jungle of the Midwest Sea. These releases built on a heavy dose of previously established regional notoriety, helping the band gain steam early on.
While each record received its fair share of acclaim, the quintet exploded onto a new level with 2010’s Black Thorn. Landing the band on a total of 9 Billboard Charts, Flatfoot 56 proved it could consistently reach an expanding audience while treading in a genre not often associated with widespread success.
Frontman Tobin Bawinkel (vocals/guitar) is now set to lead Flatfoot 56 on in their furious march forward. Armed with brothers Justin (drums) and Kyle (bass), along with Eric McMahon (bagpipes/guitar) and Brandon Good (mandolin/guitar), Flatfoot 56 is now preparing to enter the studio again to record its fourth label-backed studio album.
Like Black Thorn, Flatfoot 56’s new album will be produced by the Street Dogs’ Johnny Rioux. “We decided that since the last experience with Johnny was so beneficial, we wanted to repeat it,” Bawinkel said. “We have been friends with Johnny for years our mutual respect fosters a good creative environment for putting together a record. He knows how to challenge us and push us the next level, which is what any band hopes for.”
The band will enter Matt Allison’s Chicago-based Atlas Studios in January to record its first release for Paper + Plastick Records. “We have always respected Paper + Plastick’s independent approach to putting out records because they always seem to promote the creative side of the album,” Bawinkel said. “As a band we all really value that creative vision, and Paper + Plastick is the place to be for that.”
While the record is set to be more rootsy and folk-oriented, it promises to pack the same relentless knock-down punch that fans have grown to expect from Flatfoot 56. More than a decade into its career, Flatfoot 56 isn’t slowing down, but maintaining a blistering pace of touring and musical output.  “The next record’s sound is taking on a much more mature, heartfelt tone,” Bawinkel said. “We’re writing these songs as life gets thrown at us, and as we all get a bit older and start to interpret life in different ways, we want to express ourselves to reflect the victories and defeats that we all go through. We still love whipping the crowd into a frenzy and making everybody dance but we want to write some tunes that people can relate to, and that they can sing along to.”
The band’s new album, yet untitled, will be released in 2012 by Paper + Plastick in the United States, Stomp Records in Canada, and People Like You in Europe.
