About me:
My Life in a nutshell
I was born in New York to mestizo parents.
(In the Phillipines, people use this Spanish
term to describe a person of mixed blood)
Growing up in New York was very urban.
I was always experimenting with different styles.
After a brief stint as a hip hop chick with gold chains
and adidas sneakers, I went through a punk/ rocker stage.
My hair was blood red, then purple, then platinum blonde.
I had a tattoo, and I read a lot of French existential literature.
At 16, I was eager for independence.
My twin sister and I decided to move into the big bad city of Manhattan, into a dangerous area called the east village. The east village was an underground area at the time, full of artists and musicians, but there were also a lot of drug dealers in the neighborhood. At the time, that was all we could afford. My mom cried when she saw the dump we moved into, but our parents loved us and had faith in us, so they had no choice but to accept what we chose to do.
I was working in a vintage clothing store and taking the train back to Queens to finish school. We survived despite the influences of the dysfunctional adults around us and I still managed to graduate school with first honors.
Since I had little parental guidance, life was a series of trial and error.
After high school, I was stricken with wanderlust and traveled Europe
without my sister. Then, New York became too small for me.
I wanted to see the world. So I moved to Hawaii for 8 years, a few of which
I spent living on a 26 foot sailboat. I continued to travel in the meantime.
I learned French in the South of France one summer when I was 19.
I also spent a season in Miami and at one point tried to live in Germany
and San Francisco.
Then I got my dream job: flight attendant for United Airlines.
The job brought me to Hong Kong, where I was based for several years. I was severely culture shocked and my wanderlust grew worse.
Adventure called and I answered.
Heres some of the really cool stuff I did on the road:
Trekking in the Himalayas (three times!)
Diving with schools of stingrays in Grand Cayman
Riding a camel into the sand dunes of the Morroco and sleeping under the stars in a desert oasis
Taking a First class Land Rover safari in Tanzania
Riding a two seater plane over the Glaciers in New Zealand
Rock climbing in Krabi, Thailand
Summers sitting in cafés on the French Riveria
Biking in Yangshuo, China
I basically partied my way through all of South East Asia in a perpetually suntanned state, always carrying some kind of pretty dress in my backpack, in case the occasion called for it.
I was blissfully unattached, but it was time to grow up.
The most important things I learned from traveling were
to have an open mind (it`s harder than you think),
be flexible, curious, and sympathetic. Trust your instincts,
especially when it comes down to potentially dangerous situations
and always learn something from your experiences and mistakes.
Live, laugh, love! But most of all, forgive (yourself included).
Maturity brings new adventures and now I am happily grounded. My website seoulstyle.com started out as my personal blog. Now its a commercial website about how to enjoy life in Seoul. This year, the website has become so popular, over 20,000 individual visitors regularly visit every month!
Unfortunately, I recently moved back to Hong Kong, but life is always a series of starting over and new adventures, isn't it? Check out my new site about Hong Kong:

Who I'd like to meet:
I like cool well travelled people with artistic sensibilities and an open mind. Though I value intelligence, I like people who are a little silly, charismatic and quick to laugh. I want to make real friends on myspace. Random weirdos or perverts need not apply.
