Serena Anderlini-D'Onofrio's Blurbs |
About me:
This poignant fictionalized memoir chronicles the evolution of an extraordinary life in progress. Serena Anderlini-D'Onofrio, one of the planet's foremost advocates of bisexual / polyamorous living, takes readers along on her bold journeys away from the mainstream and into the realm of erotic self-discovery, and in the process, offers her irreverent critiques of society, education, theory, sexuality, and epistemology. This reader-friendly book describes the author's early life in Italy in the politically charged 1960s and 1970s and her time in California; her journey over the treacherous path from graduate student to educator; and from a “straight” and monogamous early adulthood to her emergence as a person at all times prepared to defy convention for the sake of integrity.
From exposing the deeply ingrained sexism and emotional terrorism of both family and academic conventions, to speaking to the poignancy of parenting across continents, this rich, transcultural tale will hold the interest of both academic and lay readers, and will challenge the mores of even those well outside the mainstream. The author is a writer and woman well worth getting to know!
Serena Anderlini D'Onofrio, Ph.D., a writer, scholar, activist, translator, and public speaker, is also a professor of humanities and Italian at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez. As editor of Women and Bisexuality: A Global Perspective (2003), and Plural Loves: Designs for Bi and Poly Living (2005) she has contributed to the visibility of alternative lovestyle discourses and communities. As homage to her native country and its thinkers, she has translated books of poetry and feminist theory. Her theory of women’s authorship in the modern theater, The “Weak” Subject (1998) was translated into Italian as Due in una in 2004. Her scholarship regularly appears in refereed journals. In 2007, she will be touring throughout the U.S. to give lectures, workshops, interviews, readings, and book signings in support of Eros.
