You can find Serena Jean and her band The Whiskey Trippers currently gigging around New York City. With Gitano Herrera on lead guitar, James Preston on bass, and Jimmy the Hat on drums, SJ&TWT keep it simple and true, combining elements of country, blues, and rock n' roll to deliver some seriously heartfelt songs. In addition, Serena Jean is proud to be an original member of NYC's Honky Tonk Happy Hour, a country revue held at the Living Room on Sunday afternoons. This weekly gathering was conceived by Kamara Thomas (of Earl Greyhound), with whom Serena Jean also sings with in her side project Larune.
Prior to her existing bands, Serena Jean was a member of Hiway Freeker Presents(1999-2003), a live music concept conceived by Canadian guitar wizard Paul Malin where one any one night you might find Hiway Freeker drawing from their extensive repetoire of original songs, or playing under the guise of two musical costumes: The Bob Dylan Project and Estrada. The BDP covers spanned Dylan's entire songbook, while Estrada was more exclusive, exploring obscure R&B from 1977-1982, which, incidentally were the blessed years that CHiPS was on the air.
Hiway Freeker played their last show at Le Swimming in Montreal in December of 2003 with their good friends Burt Neilson Band. Upon their demise, Serena Jean didn't have to look far to find new collaborators. In the fall of 2004, she began working with "Mikey Spills" from BNB on her first solo EP. This musical companionship is still thriving, and whenever possible, Serena Jean sits in with BNB back home in Canada, including at their 10 year anniversary show at Toronto's Opera House, where she sang on a sweet rendition of "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around".
