Serena Postel - vocals, guitar, strange and unusual sounds that she calls belly laughter;
David Graham - vocals, upright bass, electric bass, guitar, drums, percussion... everything we want pretty much;
Influences
Life - the two most amazing creatures ever, my son and daughter!; live recordings, live music; street performers; crazy guitar players like Don Ross; Tommy Emanuel; Dale Willis; Jesse Cook; John Lee Hooker; Stevie Ray Vaughan; voices and songwriters like Dar Williams; the Hip; Linda Perry; Jack Johnson; Patti Griffin; Dave Matthews; Martina Sorbara; Melissa Ferrick; Pearl Jam; Jeff Buckley; Brandy Zdan; Natalie Merchant; Ani DiFranco; Anouk; Meatloaf (don't laugh you love it); Natalie Cole; my favourite music score Carmina Burana (shiver, oooh the drums) and all my very forgiving and loving friends.
She’s been called “Winnipeg's Firecracker” and the “love child” of Ani DiFranco and Sarah Harmer. She’s been compared to Emmylou Harris and Edie Brickell. She has a sound that resonates familiar, yet, you can’t quite put your finger on it…
Every one who witnesses Serena Postel perform is blown away by the volume of raw talent and unbridled energy. Her intriguing voice and riveting songs are complimented by a unique percussive guitar style and razor-sharp wit. She displays a mosaic of emotion and sentiment that charms and mesmerizes. She puts on a show to remember, and then afterwards, her magnetic personality draws the people in who want to know something more about her.
Serena’s passion for playing is obvious at first sight. Since starting her musical journey three short years ago, she has impressed audiences at the OCFF Conference in Ottawa, the NXNE Music Festival in Toronto, the Winnipeg Fringe Festival, the Brandon Folk Festival, the Trout Forest Festival, and across Canada on three tours. She has played hundreds of shows, sharing the stage with some of Canada’s finest folk artists including Nathan Rogers, NQ Arbuckle, Coco Love Alcorn, Romi Mayes, Twilight Hotel, Dan Frechette, Hey Ocean, and C.R. Avery.
Serena’s music garnered airplay on CBC Radio, UMFM, CKUW and KICK-FM, Hot 103FM. During the summer of 2008, Serena was approached by filmmaker James Meagher who had seen her perform previously. He proposed making a music video for her the old-fashioned way – shot entirely on film, hand-processing, and using the nearly lost art of frame-by-frame image transfer.
Serena agreed, and began working with music producer Lloyd Peterson to record the song for the video. The result is Not My Wave – a compelling track supported by a super cool Super 8mm music video, recently released to a near-capacity crowd at Winnipeg’s Gas Station Theatre. The evening also featured the gallery debut of Serena’s acrylics and charcoal artwork, and was presented by corporate sponsor Southern Comfort.
Inspired by the success of Spare Change and excited by her own musical evolution, Serena is currently recording her next CD – a six-song EP featuring the first single Not My Wave and including a digital copy of the accompanying music video. Once released in early 2009, she plans on touring persistently across Canada, the US and Australia, because on the road "you have no choice but to be heading somewhere…"

Hey there, Here's one from left field... Ever wondered what to do in the event of a nuclear threat? A while back I came across some very disturbing information, which inspired me to make this video: Living Under the Shadow of the Nuclear Umbrella http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UaIim3Rj7L4 Both artistic (ensure you've good enough sound to enjoy the background music!) and educational, it primarily comprises official British government civil defence advice. Though the source materials are somewhat aged, the fundamentals remain relevant today. I encourage all to visit the YouTube web page above to learn more (Show your support! Rate! Comment!) and responsibly re-post and circulate as widely as possible. Help to raise awareness. Say have you checked out my web site (http://www.faberoptime.com) recently? Take care and keep in touch. Best, Faber. "Just a guy trying to make the world a better place."
