SERENITY TRACE is a band that have shocked, amazed and annoyed people in the music underground since its incarnation at the beginning of the millennia. They are hated equally as much as they are loved by fans of the scene and have managed to become a mythical whisper around murky tables in dodgy pubs. Either way, Serenity Trace has proven them selves as a band that is hardly left unnoticed. Their choice of musical expression has alienated many but also made their welcome in other scenes as they keep blending high tech music and samples with an untraditional form for metal. And within this, there are influences from other genres as well. This has lead to a struggle both within the band and out in the public. But their own faith in what they do have kept them continuing to move forward, spreading their hate and lack of respect for norms and idioms, and they are continuously reaching new people all around the world.
Serenity Trace released their debut full length album called “7th Revolution” in 2008 and played a release show in front of a packed out venue. Their live shows are known for being full of energy and with great interaction between the band and the crowd. And each gig improves on their last. They have included video screens and TV sets in their live appearance, illustrating their aggravating and confronting lyrics. Serenity Trace is a full package and first and foremost they are a band, known to entertain on any stage for any audience.
SERENITY TRACE started out as a two piece studio project in late 2000 with the two singers, known as M and O. They adopted the name Boondock Saints from the movie and made a DIY album called "The Diary of a Dying Society...". This led to several gigs as an industrial metal hip hop outfit with an underground success. The founding members of what was then known as Boondock Saints went different ways about a year after "The Diary of a Dying Society..." was released, to educate themselves further.
In 2004 they returned to Norway from different parts of the world and decided to re-form the band in a new and even more aggressive outfit. They contacted old friends and band mates Mr Brown, BTC and Jay to form the new Boondock Saints. DJ-E joined shortly after and things started to take shape. They played their first gig as a full band in the autumn of 2005 and were well received by a highly enthusiastic following. The following live appearances and the release of their first EP – "2005 Distortion" – found them a growing fan base around the world and some very good reviews and media interest. And with their blend of different music styles, they’ve found them selves being greeted by people from many different scenes – from punk to classical, synth to black metal.
During spring 2006 they could no longer use the name Boondock Saints because of legal issues with the makers of the movie so the band changed their name to Serenity Trace which was announced at the Tårnåsen Festival, supporting Purified in Blood and Stonegard.
In October 2006 they were honored by a new addition to the line up in the form of another guitarist, Mr. I. In spring 2007, however, Mr. Brown left the band because of certain differences in his own life and his opinion on the band. After a summer of searching for someone crazy enough to fill in for him, Serenity Trace adopted the Swedish nutcase D.D. who had recently moved to Norway. He fit the crowd perfectly and added some very sought after song writing skills to the line up. August the same year, Jay left the ranks because of family issues. He felt he was needed at home with his newborn son. He continued to fill in on bass for a few gigs. BTC announced his departure from behind the drums in the autumn of 2007 and the band started searching for a replacement. Luckily, not long after they found a mad western Norwegian for the job. JD added a new vibe to the band which was most welcome. Not long after, the band also had the pleasure of welcoming the former punk drummer Kay on bass. And finally, today’s Serenity Trace was complete.
This marked a change in their songwriting and a new dynamic to their live show. Having struggled through bad communication and cooperation within the band, and being highly misunderstood by many of their peers, they have proven themselves to be a band that believes so hard in what they do that nothing will stop them in their quest to spread their message. And they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
