Birthplace: Barcelona, Spain.
Lived in quite a few places around the globe: Seville (Spain), Canary Islands, San Antonio, Atlanta, Colorado Springs (US), Heidelberg (Germany), sunny Kuwait… I’m actually living in Parsberg, Germany, a gorgeous little town located in central Bavaria. Thanks to my job, I have the chance to go to places and experience many different cultures. Some of my musical projects mirror those experiences. My passionate relationship with music started during the early stages of my life. My parents recall watching me going bananas at age four while playing Gloria Gaynor’s “I never can say goodbye”… over and over. There’re a vast variety of artists and styles that best define my musical tendencies. I’d like to start with the classics and the foundations of my musical behavior: Herbie Hancock, Donald Byrd, Headhunters, Roy Ayers, James Brown, Patrice Rushen, EW&F… At age seven I knew exactly what I wanted. My passion for soul music during the 70’s took a sharp turn into Electro-Funk: D-Train, Loose Ends, Zapp, Fatback, Mtume, Evelyn King, One Way… This is hands down the style that better defines me, hence my a.k.a. At the same time, I witnessed the birth of Hip Hop music: Grandmaster Flash, SugarHill Gang, T Ski Valley, West Street Mob and Cold Crush Brothers among many others. They preceded the likes of A Tribe Called Quest, Eric B & Rakim, Too Short, Bahamadia (my girl!), DJ Mitsu, DJ Cam, etc... In 1986, House music was born and I became a consummate follower of Chicago and NYC artists like Larry Heard and Glenn Underground. There are too many to list! I also dedicated plenty of quality time listening to Acid Jazz (Brand New Heavies, Young Disciples, Incognito), New Jack Swing (Guy, Today, BBD) and Jazz-Fusion (George Howard, Najee, Boney James…). Nowadays, Nujazz is the key. In my own words, it hides a complex amalgamation of styles that blends jazz textures with funk, electronic grooves and free improvisation. It ranges a wide combination of subgenres such downtempo, broken beats, neobossa, nusoul, jazz house and future jazz. Nujazz is the answer to commercial mainstream music. It is definitely the way of the future for black music, and we can rest assured that good music will prevail for upcoming decades. I'm among the individuals embarked on a crusade against cheap r'n'b and tasteless commercial hip pop, the so-called "Bling-Bling Generation". Peace Out.
