Sergei Ioannisyan was born in Nalchik, Russia in a family of musicians. He started studying piano at the age of six in a music school. At the age of nine, he picked up drums and other percussion instruments. At the age of fourteen Sergei Ioannisyan was accepted to a music college in Nalchik, Russia as a percussion major. After three years of study, Sergei moved to St.Petersburg, Russia, where he studied for four more years at Mussorgsky College of Music. At the age of 19 Sergei won “The Young Performers” competition at The Jazz Philharmonic Hall in St. Petersburg, Russia. At the age of twenty one, Sergei Ioannisyan received a bachelor’s degree and was accepted to the St.Petersburg State University of Culture and Arts for the Master’s program. Sergei Ioannisyan moved to The United States in 1993 and successfully graduated from Berklee College of Music, where he currently works as a stuff accompanists for the vocal department. Sergei is a band leader as well as a sideman.
His appearances in The United States include:
• Guest Performance with The Massachusetts State Choir directed by Berklee professor Bob Stoloff in Boston Park Plaza Hotel, recital hall.
• “Steppin’out for Dimock 2005 festival in Boston, performed with The HoneyMac band, sharing stage with Oleta Adams, T.S. Monk, Ramsey Lewis trio, The Funk Brothers, Regina Carter, Andrew Ward and others.
• The Boston Symphony Hall, Boston “Massachusetts All-State Concert” performed with Paul Rardin Gospel Chorus as a guest artist.
• The Berklee Performance Center, Boston with Vadim Neselovsky’s group (Gary Burton’s pianist) and many other bands. Boston, MA
• Ryles Jazz Club,Boston, with The HoneyMac band.
• Hynes Convention Center in Boston, with Jenny Gagne’s band.
