Eclectic Brazilian jazz instrumentalist and composer Sergio Brandão and his large ensemble Manga-Rosa have been in the core of the Boston music scene for years, with an original and exciting sound of ‘rich transparent harmonic textures… great resource for improvisation’ — as pointed Jon Garelick on a May 2007 review for The Boston Phoenix. These ‘impressionistic’ textures are the result of the extensive usage of one (or two!) flutes in combination with flugel horn and sax soprano.
