As with many musicians, Sergio started playing drums at the early age of six. His parents knew he was to become a drummer when he starting beating on his crib to fall asleep and later placing his back to a record player to feel the vibration and imitate the sound. Their assumptions were correct, Sergio received his first used drum kit at 6 years old and first paying gig at the age of 13!
Sergio had been a musician/drummer for over 20 years, traveled with various bands all over the United States playing with people such as Phil Anselmo (front man for the metal band Pantera), until he decided to move back to his hometown of New Orleans in 2001. That was when he began performing on one of the most well know, highly visited streets in the world…Bourbon Street. This experience has proven to be invaluable as it provided the opportunity to play everything from jazz to heavy metal, making him a well versed player and respected in the music community for his chameleon like ability to adapt to any style. However, it wasn’t until Sergio moved to Nashville that he was inaugurated into the country music scene
In late summer of 2005, Hurricane Katrina displaced many musicians, Sergio being one. He lost his home and over $80,000 worth of studio gear and irreplaceable writing. That experience led him to Music City where he would continue to pursue his musical ambition…making his mark as a professional drummer. In a town that has been said to take five + years to become an establish musician, Sergio was one of the few that had broken through that stereotype. In 2006, after about 3 months of finding artist he felt would be the next up-and-coming, using social networks such as MySpace to learn their songs, and then persistently showing up to any and all gigs he was given the chance to perform one of those songs at a local club. That one song led to an opening act for Big & Rich, playing with James Otto and Shanna Crooks. That show led to playing with several other artists in what’s known as Muzik Mafia…Big and Rich, Gretchen Wilson, Shannon Lawson, Jon Nickelson, James Otto. In conjunction he also performed with Shanna Crook-- Arista Recording Artist, Crystal Hoyt--Trailor Choir and Josh Leo--guitar player, producer, writer and best known for the song Betty Davis Eyes, as well as many other talented acts.
Sergio became a member of Jamie O’Neal’s band, a four time Grammy nominated country artist, in 2007 and performed with her for over for two years while continuing to do studio gigs and being heavily involved in co-writing with several local artist. He had the honor of playing at the Historic Ryman, The Grand Ole Opry over a dozen times, CMA festival 2008 + 2009, USO tour in Iraq, and playing for the troops in Cuba. His most recent accomplishment began in the fall of 2009 when he joined Collin Raye, a 16 number one hit artist with 23 of 25 released songs reaching the top 10. Most importantly, he gets to play drums for a living!
