Sergiu Popa is a virtuoso Gypsy accordionist from Moldova (Eastern Europe). He is Roma (Gypsy) and comes from a well-known musical dynasty. Since arriving in Canada in 2002, he has been listening and absorbing new musical influences (jazz, latin, reggae, electronic, etc.) and creating Gypsy fusion which can be heard on his debut CD, Obsession Accordéon (released in June, 2006). His ensemble is a collective consisting of his wife Jessica Gal on violin, Remy Sealey on percussion, Roman Manolache on bass and Samito Matsinhe on piano, kalimba and guitar. This young, dynamic ensemble is ready to take the festival scene by storm, having performed locally and gathered a following in Montreal and area.
