Basically Serious Nubian is a one man band Instrumentalist musician in the studio,which is Marcus Davis,Composer/Electric Bass Guitar/Keyboards/Vocoder/Percussion/Drums/Drum Programming ,playing in musical styles ranging from Jazz,Funk,Blues,RnB,Latin,and Reggae grooves.Marcus was born in Hammersmith west London of West Indian heritage (St Vincent to be exact) Played in a variety of bands in the uk before moving out to Toronto, Canada at the invitation of one of his aunts.Played in a number of bands in Toronto,Roots Reality a Jimi Hendrix tribute band as well as play in a reggae band called Walin Souljahs.Has played in bands in Atlanta ,Georgia playing in an R&B review band (Manifest Destiny) and a Jazz quartet (The Bobby Coates Quartet)that played in Little Five Points before deciding to do the One man band thing at a friends suggestion. Currently there are 7 cds online at www.seriousnubian.com all concieved ,recorded,produced, and performed by Marcus Davis (Serious Nubian) Confrontations (1994) Funky Lix (1999) Moody Modes (2000) All That I Do (2002) Reflections (2003) Heavy Duty Hardcore (2004) State Of Mind (2005) .All the cds except for "Confrontations (which was recorded in Toronto 1994 ),were recorded in the uk "Funky Lix and Moody Modes were recorded at my buddies (Lynise Esprite)studio in Cardiff South Wales Lynies did the sound engineering as well as me using the sax talents of Robert Taylor. The track Cutting Ties features Robert on soprano sax.The other cds were recorded at my own studio Message Music in South Wales . Marcus is currently based in Vancouver and also Marcus freelances as a Bass Player/Programmer. Has also done some studio session projects at Clarke Drive Studios in vancouver and Haywired Audio Productions in the North West Territories.There will also be a new yet untitled Serious Nubian cd coming out later in the year (fall hopefully) which is currently in the preproduction stages.
