Seth Asa is currently working on his new album, "Dream 33", which he hopes will be complete in time for his upcoming birthday...!
BIO Seth Asa grew up in rural Maine, making music from an early age. He is now an accomplished guitarist with a truly individual style, employing various effects and finger techniques to build his self-proclaimed "acoustic art-rock" sound.
Additionally, Seth is a writer. He often uses the sound of words more than their actual meanings in his quest to create a different feel of lyric. He credits jazz and rap music for his understanding of rhythm and tone in relation to syllabic content and rhyme. Combined with his often densely-layered guitar style, Seth Asa's music is rich and full, despite his often minimalist instrumentation.
Seth Asa is also a current member of the bands "Pretty Youth," Semi*Famous," and "Visitor Zero." Over the years he has recorded, in various forms, over 60 albums.
NOTES ON THE SONGS
"No Guarantees": This song wrote itself during a Pretty Youth session. This recording is part of "dream 33", my current project. The mix you are hearing is, technically, incomplete... but I'm so excited about the project that I wanted to share something from the "Dream 33" sessions. This is just a taste of what is to come...!
"wake me": For about two years, the music to this song used to drift in and out of my head just before I fell asleep. I thought of plenty of lyrics for it, alone in the dark, and forgot them after I woke up. I started asking people to write lyrics. Then, one day, they all came rushing through as I was getting out of my car. This is also a work in progress from "dream 33".
"Children in the Smoking Section": The lyrics to this song wrote themselves while I was waiting for someone in the lobby of the Fulton Street Theater in Boise, Idaho. The music came later, during a Pretty Youth session. In this recording there's a little break between two different rhythmic arrangements of the song. After the break we all came back in together, perfectly. It was magic...!
"up the down slide": Much like "wake me", this was a late night songlet that birthed itself during the meditative calm between awake and asleep. This time, however, I woke myself up and recorded the song.
