Set on Edge, as a band, is quite fluid. Currently, the folks you are most likely to see live as Set on Edge are Shannon Lewis, Cyle Lewis, Mike Browning, and T. J. Thompson, though Steve Rieske and Pat Strawser are still active participants in the writing and recording process. Other past, and/or occasional members include, but are not limited to; Steve Rieske, Randy Kinsey, Dave McCall, Pat Strawser, Brittnye Alden, Patrick Davis, Emily Beam, Steve Grubbs, Marcus Brand, Andy Womack, Clint McKnight, Andrew Thurston, Drew Lawson, Daniel Claason, Tom Crea, Kevin Smith, Josh Bruce, John Barber, Mike Browning, Bethany Tucker, McKendree Tucker, Mitch Lee, Tim Haynes, Melanie Tullet, Josh Antonuccio, etc. & so on.
Influences
Over the Rhine, Sting & the Police, Bruce Cockburn, Bill Mallonee & Vigilantes of Love, U2, Kansas, Tears for Fears, '70's era Genesis, Henryk Gorecki, Pink Floyd, Arvo Part, the Beatles, R.E.M., the Church. the Zombies, Wilco, Denison Witmer, & Copeland.
Sounds Like
Over the Rhine occasionally performing Kansas songs with Sting guesting on vocals and backed up by U2. Or maybe not at all like that.
Founded on the campus of Ohio University with co-writer Steve Rieske (and original members Randy Kinsey and Dave McCall), by Shannon Lewis, after a successful season in Athens, GA, with a core of Pat Strawser and Patrick Davis, Shannon now continues Set on Edge with a base of local musicians in Brunswick/St. Simons Island, Georgia. Noted for strong vocals, passionate live performances, and impressive musicianship (guest musicians have also played with such acts as Jackson Browne, Vigilantes of Love, Atomic Cafe, My Dear Allison, Trilobite Cafe, The Fuzz, Duke Davis, Rock-n-Roll Summer, Volare, Jasper Gate, and even the Grateful Dead), via Set on Edge's music hope is seen through the eyes of sadness, and faith through the clouds of doubt and questioning - and in the end joy still breaks through. After 3 successful independant c.d.'s (Autumn Song '95, Sod Pottage '98, & A Story to Cling To '02), Set on Edge is currently recording fourth of new material (Sleeper/Healer), and Shannon is also recording 4 other side projects at his newly constructed home studio. New tracks will become available as streaming audio as they are completed, so enjoy!
