Sevenball shine most brightly live. Their music has been described as ground-breaking rock with sky-scraping vocals by The Guardian. The nucleus of the band is the kinetic partnership of Luke Ritchies devastating voice and Andrew Dunns distinctive lap slide style playing an acoustic guitar through an electric amp -, creating a collaboration of intensity and passion that has, on several occasions left audiences with aching limbs.
After hearing Sevenball, Radio 1s Mary-Anne Hobbes put Luke in touch with Wes Borland (Limp Bizkits ex-guitar player) to work in his new band Eat the Day. They met to discuss the project, however this has been put on indefinite hold since Wes is currently working for two soundtracks.
More recently, Luke has also just returned from Prague, after working on a highly acclaimed Czech film, Horem Padem. The director Jan Hrebejk and composer Ales Brezina first heard his voice while staying in London, and consequently invited him to sing on their new soundtrack. The film looks set to enjoy similar success to their last work, Divided We Fall, which earnt them an Oscar nomination for Best International Film in 2000. Horem Padem has also become one of the most successful films in the Czech Republic, and earnt Sevenball a major slot at the Czech Republics largest music festival United Islands this summer.
Hi folks. The bombardment begins! We have five shows this month, the first of which is mighty exciting!
Supporting his new Asthmatic Kitty LP ’In The Vines’ Raymond Raposa stops by for one of only six UK shows. His wonderful songwriting is awash with trippy electronics and lazy country licks. Twisted country Grandaddy possibly? I dunno, bloody good though! Assisting on the album are a wealth of talented musicians including members of the wonderful Phosphorescent, Jana Hunter and Sufjan Stevens.
Supports are great too.
York ain't so far away! 10 minutes from the station.
Please Please You presents Castanets, Fishing Partners + Red Trees. The Basement, York, Thurs. 8th May, 8pm. £6adv.

A Retro fest of the highest order. Up from London town, Wolf People's apocalyptic blues will delight anyone into the real trippy side of the west coast sound. 'Safe As Milk' era Beefheart influences abound. Paper Spaceman are from Rochdale but sound more like they've spent years soaking up the Californian sunshine. Add to that the incredibly talented Karl Culley and DJ Paul Fuzz and you've got yourself one great night out.
Hey folks...first solo gig at fibs in bloody ages, would be smashing if ya can make it...and with a whopping 5 nuggets off with a flyer why the hell not...oh and Deadstrings are mint too..x
