Classic new wave with a modern rock twist. Dream pop with an edge.
Seven Color Sky music is available at the following online retailers:
"Goodbye to Gravity" is now available! Recorded and produced by John Ashton (Psychedelic Furs) at his Woodstock, NY studio.
Are they an "indie" band? A "new-new-wave" band? Whatever tag
one wants to place on them, it's not difficult to trace the influences behind this Pittsburgh-based band's catchy melodies and moody energy: everything
from the Smiths, Cure and Psychedelic Furs to ELO, Foreigner and other early 70s/80s AOR rock are present in SCS's unique mix. In all, Seven Color Sky has a sound like no other band today -- warm, dreamy, full of 80's romanticism and modern energy.
The band's modern rock angle on a classic new-wave vibe has attracted
not only a score of loyal music fans but also bona fide icons -- namely John Ashton, long-time guitarist for 80's legends the Psychedelic Furs
("Pretty In Pink," "Heartbreak Beat"), . The band's involvement with Ashton arose from a mutual respect: John
was already a fan of the first SCS album, the 10-song "Secrets About the Stars," and was further wowed when Seven Color Sky opened two Pittsburgh-area shows for the Furs. After their opening set at the 2004 Three Rivers Arts Festival, John and the band discussed the possibilities of working together. As Ashton recalls, "I was walking around sort of listening to these guys play. They'd just come on and I was way...in the back. And I thought, 'This sounds really cool.' So after the show I said, 'Hey, you guys sound really great' and the rest in history!" (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, 10-23-04).
The resulting body of work, the "Better Looking EP", contains four lush, dreamy, radio-ready tunes featuring layers of vintage synths and shimmering guitars, poppy bass and drums, and tongue-in-cheek vocals.
In addition to producing SCS's 2005 release, the "Better Looking" EP, Ashton was also at the helm for the newly available "Goodbye to Gravity" album.
SCS formed in the Summer of 2002, a collaboration between vocalist / guitarist Scott Bedillion, bassist Marc Turina, and synth magician Terry Divelbliss. Power drummer Frank Postava came on board in early 2005. The band's sound has become bigger, more distinct, and always evolving. It's dream pop with an edge.
"Pittsburgh four-piece Seven Color Sky are one of the American underground's best kept secrets. While the likes of The Killers and The Bravery go on to sell out arena-sized venues and collect platinum stained discs, SCS continue to make arguably better records."
Playing around the Burgh this week, Greensburg and Rochester, hope to see you at either for some party time.
