I landed in Norway and there on the front page of the newspaper is Willie
Nelson with his arms around a Norwegian musician. Willie was making
friends in Norway. A good thing to keep in mind is a bit of respect for
one's elders. If Willie was doing it, I needed to make some friends in
Norway. And thus began my relationship with Seven Doors Hotel. The band
rocks, the band sways, the band grooves. How is it that you end up in a
place so far from home and find music that touches you in a back home way?
I made friends with Alex, the singer. We met at the statue park and
discussed the upcoming schedules in each others lives. Finding that we
each had some downtime, we got together and I recorded a few songs at his
home studio. He handed me this record and I took it home and listened to
it all afternoon. "Black hair on my pillow." There is a lot of music on
here you can relate to. I met his girlfriend and we walked through the
snow in Oslo to have a pizza on a Sunday afternoon. It's the people that
you meet along the way when you're an itinerant musician that counts. Alex
and his band are good people.
