If you have any reason to believe that bands make music purely on what they believe in and what they are influenced by, Seven is the epitome of that. Ranging from all sorts of inspirations and rock legends, five guys come together to create a collaboration of funk, RnB, pop, and rock with a tinge of metal and jazz.
Josh on drums and Iqram, or more commonly known as Bo on lead guitar and vocals, the oldest members of the band formed Seven while they were still in high school. The pair who knew nothing much about music but for the love for it was neither here nor there. Jumping from one band to another, the two boys were merely putting their music and lyrics together in the form of love songs as opposed to the previous nu-metal background they had started from. At the end of 2004, Josh and Bo had a successful if but brief hook up with three others on the guitar and bass, and most importantly the saxophone, which was when they realized what established their sound.
Starting to take things more seriously, they were booking gigs left right and centre, from high school proms to rock gigs around the KL indie scene. Stumbling upon Imran on Sax,joined by Tim on Bass, their past gigs at KLUE's Urbanscapes and the Mosaic Music Festival in Singapore where they played alongside renown international artists such as The Roots, The George Clinton Parliament Funkadelic, Broken Social Scene, Mum and Lee Ritenour, are only two amongst the lengthy list of performances the band has to add under their belt.
Even though the band has seen many of its members come and go over the years, they are still going strong as they are one that is grounded on friendship above all else. Another question the band members are frequently asked: "Why Seven?" The simplest answer would be... "Why not?". Plus they make up different reasons for their name every couple of weeks.
And well, they ARE made up of seven races collectively-The most common; Chinese, Indian, Malay. And then you have Kelabit, Javanese, Thai, and Portuguese. It's also, in fact, the time (in years) that they have taken to produce an album.
It could also be the seven different reasons why they like cake, but I guess we'll have to keep tuning into the band to find out the latest reason why.
