Influences
The usual jazz stuff: Miles and Trane, Monk, Art Blakey and all of their various amazing sidemen. Of particular note are Herbie Hancock, John McLaughlin (especially Mahavishnu Orchestra), and John Scofield. We're also influenced by modern popular styles, and we incorporate rock, pop, funk, and hip hop sounds with jazz.
Sounds Like
Stumptown soul: While the members of Portland five-piece 7 Year Tango may work day jobs to make ends meet, at night their energy output seems unfazed, judging by the mood at a recent show. Though this recent performance found the group missing a member, the crowd clearly did not feel cheated, cheering liberally for 7 Year Tango's funky jazz. Bringing to mind the Greyboy Allstars, the group can veer into the funk camp one minute, improvisational jazz the next. --Oregonean A&E
7YT is funky like the Meters but opens up to the possiblities in a jam. --the Goodfoot
Seven Year Tango is a four piece band from Portland, Oregon that plays funky, soulful jazz-rock originals in a style that integrates the syncopated New Orleans sounds of the Meters with the improvisational approach of the 1970s electric Miles Davis.

Hey Friends, it's me, Flowmotion & the Summer Meltdown Festival.
Just wanted to remind our friends in Seattle that we're about three weeks or so away from starting and tickets are about to go up in price on July 23rd. Now is the time to get your tickets if you're planning to go. This is going to be one of the best years yet, 30+ bands on three stages, camping on 40 acres along the river and epic views of glacier capped Whitehorse Mountain. Please tell all your friends and spread the word about the tickets going up next week. Visit the official site at www.summermeltdown.com
DVB will be in Portland this upcoming Tue April 15 performing live at the Doug Fir Lounge opening up for our good friends Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey. The night promises to be an excellent one as we are excited to debut new material and JFJO has the release of a new record. Hope to see you out!
