Basically the idea behind the work is a twisted version of reality, how people are always changing and reinventing themselves, in good and bad ways. That's where the idea for the cogs/machinery comes in, life being one big mechanism (a metaphor).
People are always changing the way they look, inside and out, that's why the clown's head is there...and the torso is slightly skinless, another metaphor for ever changing etc...but most of the time people are always "severing links" from their true selves, past or present in order to be something better... Ferg's extreme emotional screams with the mixture of Cossie and Chris's brutal guitar riffs, Justins drumming techniques and Mikey's bass that makes you want to throw anything next to you, people soon to realise where these guys have been getting there energy from, which works perfectly in there own style and kicks your ass everytime......
Originally formed in 2004, with all members from Roma at the time, Severed Link was originally called 'Small Town Murder', but soon enough it was changed due to names already taken. Another name was then presented (Severed Link), which had a even more personal meanings behind it. Then it was time to get another guitarist in and play some shows. Chris joined Severed Link and fitted perfect with the style we were going for and also just who he was as a person.
In 2005/2006, sadly, Jason (drummer) and Evil (bass) had other commitments happening in thier lives and had to leave the band. Our first ep. A SMALL TOWN MURDER was released mid 2006 and soon enough we where doing more shows again at THE BASEMENT, THE REV, COLOMBIAN BAR, SHAMROCK, and even had the chance to go up and play with PARKWAY DRIVE in Townsville. Also FOR SOLD (mel) invited us down to do some shows with those guys. We have even done our own tours out to roma with capacity crowds, and have taken bands such as - RAZORHURST, MINUS LIFE, FAT MANS CLEAVAGE, SAY NOTHING, ETC.
In 2006/2007, Mikey (sausage chopper) and Justin (duramater, blackened) became the new crew in Severed Link, and since those guys have joined, we have been playing shows all around brisbane, mainly CLUB PHOENIX, also scored a spot at OVERCRANKED 2007 and been reconised as a band with much more potential to give. We thank all the bands we have played with so far, and especially the special people that been with us since the start and beyond. North Coast have the friendliest people we have ever met and we specially thank them for there non stop support(we will be back soon). Our new ep. A NEW DAY A NEW DEATHWISH hopes to show people how much better we as individuals and in music we have grown. Sure.... everyone does change all the time to how the world around us changes, but just remember that choices that we make today could be the change to the rest of your life.
