All true independent music that is made for the joy of making it. SR believes that music should never be made for the sole purpose of making money. If you have ever been to a bar and heard a band pouring their heart and soul out on the stage that is who SR is influenced by. We are a label ran by musicians for musicians.
Independent music that you wish you could hear on free radio or on pre-paid video services like MTV. Severed Records believes that artists should not be forced to fit into the boring molds that music executives have shoved even the most original bands into. If you don't like one band, try another one because if you like original uncompromising music then we have a band for you.
Severed Records was founded on the belief that every band has an audience if they are given a chance to find it. While in college, we would go out to local bars and listen to area bands play their hearts out on stage to a few hundred people (if they were lucky), but during breaks or after the show they wouldnt even have a single quality CD to sell. This never sat well with me. Why wasn't there an independent record label helping these guys out? The answer was obvious; either Indy labels had lost touch with the local scene, or nobody had the knowledge or resources to pull off small quantity productions.
That's when we decided to stop complaining and start doing something. At first, I thought our label would fail before it ever got started. We got in over our heads really fast, have you ever really stopped and thought about how many people you know that have a garage band? Its scary once you really think about it, we had a dozen bands that wanted us to hook them up and no clue how to do it. That's when we decided that indie music needed to be heard by any means possible. Over the years with your help we have grown to the company we are today. So sit back with an open mind and listen to real music made by true artists.
