Sexpod is the ultimate rock power trio. Their trance inducing sound is so mystifyingly potent that it defies explanation. The band formed in the early 90's and released a single on Queenie Records, an ep on Go- Kart Records and the definative Goddess Blues on Slab/CMC/BMG in '97. By this time, Sexpod was already one of downtown NYC's hottest bands. They later toured with rock legends Joan Jett and Iggy Pop. The bands recordings and majestic live performances garnered critical acclaim in such major publications as The Village Voice, Billboard, Time-Out, The Star Ledger and numerous others. Sexpod reformed in the spring of 2008 and is currently mesmerizing old and n
ew fans with their stellar array of soulful, hypnotic and in-your-face grooves.***************************************************************************************************************************
THE FOLLOWING IS AN EXCERPT FROM THE AUTHORIZED BIOGRAPHY... I WISH SOMEONE WOULD SPONTANEOUSLY COMBUST: THE SEXPOD STORY ***
Sexpod was formed from the remains of 80’s postpunk band Gut Bank. After the demise of Gut Bank , Alice Genese and Karyn Kuhl started playing with a young and talented drummer named Mike Mitolo. Th ey played one show as Circle Of Silver and worked on a couple of songs that would later become part of the Sexpod repertoire. After Mike left to work on other projects, Karyn and Alice began playing with the innovative Billy Loose and Sexpod Was Born! Billy, Alice and Karyn released a single Venus on Queenie Records and an ep Home on Go-Kart. They played the NY area extensively and toured the East coast...frequently the recipients of such strange compliments as, “wow, these girls can really play their instruments” or “she plays like a guy ! “ After about 5 years of rock love and turmoil, Billy left to join Bay Of Pigs. Luckily, Mike Mitolo ( now a seasoned pro playing with Sweet Lizard Illtet ) stepped in to do a few shows. Sexpod could not, however, escape it’s karmic fate. Original Gut Bank drummer, the wildly charismatic Tia Palmisano (soon to become Tia Sprocket) came back to play with Sexpod. In this form, the band released the definitive Goddess Blues on Slab/cmc/bmg and their live shows became truly transformative. (is that actually a word?) Unfortunately, not even Band Therapy ( yes, they did. even before Metallica) could stop the inevitable... After Sprocket quit the band onstage !?, in the middle of a song !?, the night before a tour !? ... who, but the magically reappearing Mike Mitolo would heroically step in ?! He listened to the songs in the van, got onstage for the first show in N.C. and didnt miss a beat. Mike had his own band to contend with when Sexpod got back from the tour, so Alice and Karyn were in search of their next drummer/victim. The chill and groovin Wylie Wirth stepped in to play drums for the last year of Sexpod’s life. By now, The spinal tap-ness of it all became too much for Alice and Karyn and they decided to go their separate ways for a while. Karyn went solo and later formed a band. Alice played with Grill, Pretty Boys and Psychic TV. In 2006, Alice graciously stepped in to play bass in Karyn’s solo band, along with ex-Sexpod drummer Billy Loose. Sexpod did an impromptu mini reunion at one of Karyn’s solo shows in NY. In the spring of 2008, Mike Mitolo appeared yet again. After playing for fun in a NY rehearsal studio one night, Mike, Karyn and Alice decided to reform Sexpod for some reunion shows...
