Anodyne

singing songs of stars, i found a letter inside (i forgot):
what warm winded interstate can cry when i can not?
and there but for the grave and god go i, it's just the same
(as if you know it's real when love is proven by the pain).

with whit beknownst to stone, time for the sea only exists
to undermine the efforts and to cut the exposed wrists.
the ocean meets the dreams of lovers all engaged in it -
their battered broken battled nightmares of a sinking ship.

and though i know the forest takes you there and brings you sleep;
without the will engaged, the darkness brings you apathy.
so singing songs of stars i found a letter that i thought you'd lost,
where inside you confessed exactly how you've paid the cost.

when she returns, the stars all rise and when i see them, sigh,
to fall asleep without a name, you know how hard i've tried.
this gathering of notes beneath the city's scream is anodyne:
still singing songs of stars, of life support and balancings.

can all this pass to quell the bleeding waves of yesterday?
the charts restored through means of undertow and tidal sway?
with heartless missions here to there, you'll find they're all resolved
to choke the life from faith and leave the victims unabsolved.

and all to soon, you ask just what it is that i cannot forget
the world is flat, the demons real, and still the street beget
a sick and homeless boy who found himself lost out at sea;
too near the edge without a sail or oars or his beliefs.
