Influences
Rolling Stone Magazine once called us 'second-hand Pogues'. I suppose they're right, but fuck 'em anyway. Playwright Sandra Long was the first to call it 'pirate folk'. Quincy calls it 'Folk Music From Hell'. In the end, it's just folk music, and it's all folk music.
Sounds Like
A hundred drunken sailors coming across a horde of ravishing Sirens, but the microphone is on the ship, not on the shore.

SFZ is pronounced 'Sforzando' or 'Ess Eff Zed'. Either/or.
On all good pirate ships there existed a pirate orchestra. It was the orchestra's responsibility to chronicle in song the adventures of the pirates. SFZ are an 8-piece pirate orchestra who blend ferocious punk, Western European folk melodies and classic sea shanties to create a soundscape for the ocean. They sing of sailors that can't swim, ships that won't sail, dangerous mermaids and sirens ravishing the waves, mutineers, the vengeance of the sea Gods, the fury of the ocean, the destruction of the shoreline, the poetry of waves and of course, pirates. Especially pirates.

Don't look at our website. It hasn't been touched in about 7 years. I think it says we're playing at The Punter's Club this Friday.
Hello!!! It's been awhile - sorry there hasn't been in any Australian shows for many months but we've been busy in Europe with a bunch of touring and we're now recording our new album in Berlin (scheduled for release in March). But to make up for it, here's a big (and silly) Merry Christmas from us (and from some hippos too) :
Some bold new artistic direction? Nah, Just us being silly!!! We did this track for our label's "Black Snow - the completely different Xmas compilation". (and of course, visit our youtube channel for a high quality version)
Wishing you a very silly Silly Season and we'll see you back in Australia sometime in 2010!

Big gypsy tunes will echo around the centre of Melbourne on Friday 7
August when The Woohoo Revue head up a massive line up of bands and
DJs at the Forum Theatre as part of the Melbourne International Film
Festival’s Balkan Beatbox Night.
In addition to The Woohoo Revue, the show will also feature such
amazing acts as Vardos, BabaGanoush, 13 piece brass band Opa! as well
as DJ Gabriele Urban Gypsy (PBS Trans Europa Express).
The combined talents of these performers will make this a rampaging
Balkan carnival of oom-pah, gypsy swing and huge brass band sounds.
