COMMEMORATED BY ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE
The Top Secret 315th Bomb Wing flying B-29 bombing missions from Northwest Field, Guam, to the Japanese Empire was recently commemorated by Andersen Air Force Base. A plaque has been established at Northwest Field in honor of the 315th Wing, which flew the last and longest mission from the Marianas August 14/15, 1945--5 days after the Atomic Bombs. This mission destroyed Japans greatest oil fields at Akita 277 miles Northwest of Tokyo, and by an incredible twist, that has no earthly answer, defused a military revolt that was blood sworn to seize the Emperor, impound his surrender message to his people and continue the war.

The command ordered this unexpected mission to finish Japan off and prevent Russia from entering the Peace Process. The official end of the war announced by Harry S. Truman was picked up from Saipan as the 315th returned to their Northwest Field base!
The mission time averaged 17 hours--13 B-29 were forced to land at Iwo Jima due to fuel starvation.
