Hanging out with the deep and beautiful Danelle . I do yoga alot!!I hike (but not enough). I love Thai and and Indian food.
Any chance I get I'll be wading in the Ocean up to my chest !
Music
My tastes are very eclectic. I ,like every one else one the planet apparently ,love the Beatles. I have phases where I will learn how to sing and play one of their tunes almost every other day . I am also thrown into fits of ecstasy listening to the Police's SYNCHRONICITY album.
I love Jazz ... Keith Jarrett, Miles , Monk , Mingus , Sonny ,Nina Simone, Sco etc.
Ever since the age of 15 (or so) Weather Report has been one of my all time favorites.
When I was studying Upright bass with Paul De Nola of the National Symphony I started listening to Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 4.The first movement has been known to move me to tears .
Delta blues...Rev. Gary Davis , Skip James , Lightnin' Hopkins ... why that's the truth unvarnished.
Other musicians I love :
Ali Farka Toure ,
Duke Ellington (kills me) ,
Miles ,
Jimi Hendrix ,
Bob Dylan (i think he's a great singer) ,
Frank Sinatra ,
Chet Baker ,
Keith Jarrett ,
Bartok ,
Michael Jackson,
Sly Stone (FRESH is an almost perfect masterpiece)
Stravinsky ( the Ballets )
and definitely Prince !!!!!!!!!
Movies
I used to watch movies passionately and often until a few years ago ,lately it's a rare treat. I seem to recall loving All things KUBRICK ( Barry Lyndon ) ,Scorsese's Mean Streets ,Woody Allen ( especially Stardust Memories , Deconstructing Harry and Crimes and Misdemeanors) ,Miller's Crossing and most Coen Bro.s.
PERSONA really changed the way I saw films' possibilities.
I love, adore David Lynch's tender, brutal films.I think that Mullholland Dr and Lost Highway are great works of pure genius and that Naomi Watts multiple performance in the former is quite possibly the greatest acting on film since De Niro in Raging Bull.
Also Hitchcock,Kurosawa, Fellini etc.
DEAD MAN is one of my faves.
Television
I really don't watch TV except the NBA play-offs, which I tape ( fast-forward the commercials) and watch with a vengeance. It's a guilty pleasure , being sort of the fruit of the very corporate excess which I believe is destroyng the planet.
Books
I have periods where you'd think that reading was all I did and then there are times where reading W. WeeK is rare. Tolstoy is very important to me( I've read all his Major novels ), Bukowski , I recall getting chills reading Michael Herr's DISPATCHES , Pretty timely and just pure brilliance with words... he could probably write a toothpaste commercial that would cut you in half, Hemingway , Conrad ( the Secret Agent is a personal fav), of course, Dostoevsky ...William S. Burroughs letters to Ginsberg (riveting ... almost a blueprint on haw to become an artist)... and other stuff like Phil Jackson's Basketball books, Jack Nicholson's biography, etc.
I suppose I read alot of tough guy macho stuff for someone who isn't too much like that.
Heroes
Harry Dean Stanton , Mother Theresa , Malcolm X , Paul Klee(proof you can be a totally prolific, bad ASS artist and a decent human ) and definitely Kubrick , Woody Allen and Allen Iverson .
