WHO IS SHADE?
Shade was born and raised in Houston Texas the only child of her Louisiana born parents. Shade is one of the many individuals in her family who sing and play instruments. This would include a grandfather who plays in a Blues and Zydeco band and her father who worked at a local Houston radio station as a DJ and sold mixed tapes. It is no wonder Shade began performing at age 4.
Shade literally started singing before she could talk and started writing songs the day she picked up her first pencil. In the sixth grade, Shade learned to play the flute in her school’s band. Therefore is one of the few recording artists that have the ability to read and write music. Shade took this new knowledge and began working with local bands and performing at local venues around Texas.
Though Shade is a Houston born artist, her talents have taken her all over the world long before any record deal or concert tour. Shade took it upon herself to explore the rest of the world and has performed on stages in Spain, Germany, U.K., Prague, France, Belgium, Holland, and Austria. This self–sponsored world tour has exposed Shade to almost every culture and musical genre on the planet such as House, Techno, Electro, and Trance. This is a definite difference from the music industry’s stereotypical R&B label that is tagged onto many Black female artists. Shade can and does it all very well!
This worldwide exposure has most definitely added to the eclectic surprises that can be found in each one of Shade’s songs. Shade’s music is as multidimensional as the artist herself. Shade’s songs can range from fun-hearted and silly to conscious and political explosive in their nature. Each song is a magnetically honest testimonial of the complexities of the human existence that endlessly thrill and attract fans of Shade from all over the world. Shade’s messages atomically powerful.
Some record companies have to search long and hard for a song their artists can sing. The crew at Shade’s record label, Stereotype Productions, can always rest assure that Shade will without fail time after time create material that is truly unique, hot and original. These facts couldn’t be more evident than it is in her song iGirlfriend where Shade makes an almost humanoid connection between sexuality and technology. In the song “What Happened To Michael Jackson” Shade uses a fellow Black entertainer as a metaphor to describe institutionalized self-hatred and disharmony of people of color all over the world. These songs are just two of the many creative masterpieces that qualify Shade as one of the most prolific artists mankind will ever had the pleasure of knowing.
Like many artists, Shade’s talents seem unending. Shade not only sings, writes, or raps, Shade dances, Shade produces music, Shade paints, Shade designs clothing, and Shade even designs jewelry!
But Shade isn’t just talented. Shade is a strong, intelligent and bold person who has triumphed in the face of recent and passed tragedies. But Shade is not a victim she is a genius and a beacon of strength and endurance which is source of the shining light which radiates from her music and are the key ingredients in the creation of an artist like the artist known as SHADE.
