Well, we love The Black Crowes, Pearl Jam, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Neil Young, The Allman Brothers get some props, Soundgarden, Lenny Kravitz, G&R, thanks for all the good times! The amazing magicians of Wilco, Aerosmith, The Friggin' Stones are always rocking, Jeff Buckley the sweetest soul, Little Feat for inspiration on how to keep on keepin' on, with a touch of Nilsson.... Dude, Nilsson sings Newman is fuckin' Fantastic!
Sounds Like
A bleeding heart, a revving engine, a black hole eating a shooting star, gettin' busy for the first time, the light bulb above your head, falling in love, seeing red, hauling ass, the cosmos...
Shades of Day is a rock and roll band. Joining classic rock swagger with modern textures, they sing like the Eagles if they were in the Black Crowes.
Currently putting the finishing touches on their second full length album in Ojai, CA with engineer/producer Michael Dumas (Dwight Yoakam, Lucinda Williams), the band is excited and ready for a productive 2010 and a new album.
It's been 3 years since the band first introduced MAYDAY!, and the new songs are full of juicy stories and delicious hooks and harmonies. With the addition of Rami Jaffee on the B3 and keyboards, the album makes a decidedly richer and densely harmonic pitch.
Shades of Day has been opener or support for Ziggy Marley, Natasha Bedingfield, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Jason Mraz, Blondie, Little Feat, Snow Patrol, Sugarcult, Alter Bridge, ALO, Devon Allman, Glen Phillips, Kenny Loggins and Edwin McCain, in addition to sharing bills everywhere with many amazing unsigned groups.
Always up for a laugh and an adventure, they've played on a trailer towed by a Zippy Dippy Ice Cream Truck and toured the desert in summertime in an old yellow short bus. They've tried on clothes with Debbie Harry and smoked with Mark Tremonti. They've played many live TV and radio programs in the Santa Barbara/Ventura counties including 92.9 KJEE, 95.9 The Octopus, KCSB 91.9, Musical Cafe Ch. 17, and are regular offenders at the popular Wildcat Lounge in Santa Barbara and the Majestic Ventura Theater.
*Voted best band in Ventura County 3 years in a row '06-'08, and are in the running for 2010. (VC Reporter)
In any combination, they are pure entertainment. If you walked in on some between song banter, you'd feel quite like you were in a comedy. It's a striking and endearing contrast to the sincerity and passion of the group's music. The band is always the last to leave every show, making sure to greet and thank all who came. A true, down home rock band all full of heart and soul. They're doing it family style, like The Band... but for the modern age.
On MAYDAY!, the band's first album:
"...a unique musical journey that on one song might blend influences of the Grateful Dead with Blue Oyster Cult, while on another shoots through hints of bluegrass and jazzy arrangements on its way to a twist of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam. Strong percussion, melodies and vocals maintain the band's pumped-up classic rock feel that makes your hairs stand on end. But it's the well placed harmonica, sax and other musical goodies that keep listeners wanting to dig around MAYDAY's enticing grab bag of tunes."

MAYDAY! is temporarily out of print, but is available on Itunes and as a downloadable album at CDBABY.com/cd/shadesofday.
