From the Birthplace of Funk - Ohio - Janine Nash…aka…Lady J is a lyricist, poet and singer with over 10 years of performance and studio experience.
Lady J has performed with the popular R&B Band, The Groove Society, and Soul Pocket and has performed with or opened for Howard Hewitt, Bloodstone, Slave, Barrington Henderson (lead singer for the Temptations), Kirk Whalum, Rayse Biggs (Trumpeter for Kem), and “The Saxtress”, Pamela Williams; as a writer she has penned songs with former Earth, Wind and Fire guitarist, Sheldon Reynolds and original member, Ralph Johnson. She has also written and performed on the recently released “Devoted Spirits CD, “The Answer”.
Lady J now fronts the band, Shades of J which performs a blend of soulful R&B and Jazz with thought-provoking spoken word. Delivering inspirational messages with a seductive vibe;
her sets have been described as “Unique & Soul Stirring”…a “Quiet Revolution”. She makes a sincere and intimate connection with her audience as though they were kickin’ it in her living room. The Shades of J experience is anything from a 6-piece band to a more intimate acoustic set with guitar and flute.
The "Shades of J" debut CD, along with her inspiring performances, earned a nomination for a 2007 & 2008 Cincinnati City Beat CEA Award.
The Premiere of O.T.R. a crime drama series, will be shown @ The Springdale Showcase Cinemas in Cincinnati, OH on Thursday, Nov. 5th at 7:30p. Tickets available now @ Everybody's Records on Montgomery Rd. in Pleasant Ridge & from the cast members. Tickets are $7 with a percentqge of the proceeds going to The Free Store Food Bank.

Hi Shades of J is Awake, Heaven & Earth is on hiatus now as Stuart Smith and Richie Onori have joined forces with bassist Steve Priest to reform "Sweet". For those of you unfamiliar with the band, Sweet originally formed in the early 70s and went on to sell over 40,000,000 albums with 11 International Top Ten Hits such as "Ballroom Blitz", "Little Willy", "Love is Like Oxygen", "Fox on the Run", "Teenage Rampage", "Action", "Blockbuster", "Hellraiser" and many others. This reincarnation of the band reformed last year, playing their first show in June, and went on to play festivals throughout Canada and the States and had played to over 300,000 people before the year was out.
