Books
Michael Moorecock
-Hawkmoon. Fantasy, set in a future that has digresed back to the middle ages. This is a series of shorter books, kind of like chapters that tell one story. The easiest way to read it is to find the collected version.
-Corum. Fantasy. Again, a series of books that combine to tell one story, kind of like a mini series. There is a sequal.
-Elric. Fantasy. Start with Elric of Melnibone. This tells the first story of Elric. There are many subsequent books, all worth reading. A comic has just come out telling the story of how Elrik grew into the man you read about in the books. Written by Moorecock and drawn by Walt Simonson.
Shaun Micallefs' Smithereens Small but beautifully formed pieces of Shaun Micallef. Thats what the cover says anyway. This is a collection of wacky stories by Mr Micallef about anything and anyone.
From 'The Al Jolson Story'.
You ain't heard nothin' yet.
Assuring an audience that they have not as yet heard the absence of something is hardly revelatory, and the implication that they would, upon commencement of some singing, hear nothing would have merely bamboozled them was it not so expertly masked by poor grammar. This, then, was Jolson's true skill as a performer.
Isaac Asimov:
-The Steel Caves. A sci fi murder mystery. It was written a really long time ago but its still a really fun book. The movie I, Robot got some insperation from this book too. There are two sequals, The Naked Sun and The Robots of Dawn.
Skill with people (very quick easy read).
A Spectator's Guide To World Religions by John Dickson. If your thinking 'what is Hinduism?' read this book. Also has Judaism, Buddhism, Christianity & Islam.
Shirow art books (Intron Depot series) & Appleseed
Green Lantern, Teen Titans, Crisis On Infinite Earths, Supergirl & the Legion of Super-heroes & Savage Dragon.
Blueflyer, Seadragon, Blackwing & Guardians of Justice from CFCA.
JLA: Year One, Grant Morrisons run on JLA, almost anything by Peter David (X-Factor, Hulk etc). Formaly known as the Justice League & I can't believe it's not the Justice League.
Supreme Powers By JMS & Gary Frank is very cool too. Green Lantern: Rebirth, Superman/Batman: Generations (the first two mini-series by John Byrne).
And don't forget Astro City, one of the best Super-Hero comics ever (Kurt Busiek & Brent E. Anderson).
Youngblood: Genesis: Super Hero. Ever wanted to know how youngblood was formed? Check out this 2 issue mini series and find out. Script by Kurt Busiek, written by Brandon Thomas with art by Chad and Eric Walker.
Wildc.a.t.s: Super Hero. The original mini series was one of the best comics to ever come out of Image comics. Jim Lee and friends.
