The band Shadow from Salt Lake City, Utah is a rock group that prides itself on creating great music that speaks to their generation. Each member of Shadow has spend their lives chasing their dreams of rock and roll and balancing those aspirations with those of the "real world". Thusly, their music reflects those struggles; the ups and downs of relationships, alcoholism, sex, politics and just about every other hot button issue of our times.
Lead singer Scott Perez sings with a powerful voice and passion. The haunting track "Shelly" speaks of love lost, while the title track from their most recent release, "Generation Reeducation" chastises the youth/everyone for their lack of direction and love for empty popular culture. Gordon Archuleta, lead guitar, brings the buzz saw rock guitar that reminds this author of Ace Frehley and Edward Van Halen. His riffs add emphasis and power to Perez's words making a great combination.
Shadow is rounded out by Baldemar Mendez on Bass guitar and Drummer Ivin Jay. Baldemar, an accomplished guitar player in his own right brings a fire to their live performances and spot on background vocals. Ivin Jay's brings thunder that pays homage to names such as Bonham, Appice, Lee and Sorum. A powerful rhythm section, to be sure.
Shadow continues to play many shows throughout the mountain west. If you have the chance, see this band and by all means, pick up their newest record Generation Reeducation.
