The band takes its stage moniker from a Japanese Buddhist term which loosely translates to the goal of their music "To remove suffering and bring happiness to all people by awakening them to their inherent greatness." Shaka Buku was created by Chad Nellis who formed Shaka Buku in 1999. In 2002 Chad met Pancho Tomaselli -bass player for War- and together they have created a masterpiece of diversity called Shaka Buku.
