Shake It Shake It! @ NIGHT & DAY THIS FRIDAY! Posted at 12:10 AM Dec 18 view more
About me: Shake It Shake It! is a Friday Night Artpop Party, held on the second + fourth Fridays of every month at Manchester's best alternative venue, the very swanky Star & Garter.
Tired of the city's abundance of swaggering lad-rock clubs, and uninspiring cut-and-paste indie-electro nights, we bring Manchester's discerning club-goers an ever-changing playlist of edgy, noisy, intelligent and - most importantly - danceable alternative music.
Having launched in late 2008, the press we've received has already noted how Shake It Shake It has "quickly established itself as an alternative alternative...keeping an indie aesthetic without succumbing to too much trash or electro pop" (Manchester Evening News).
Picking out the best of the fresh crop and some recent alternative gems, along with a handful of forgotten cult classics, we're always excited to put together a playlist that is both creative and a lot of fun to dance to.
Second Friday of every month 9 'til 2.30
£4/ £3 with a flyer (£5 after midnight)
And because it’s the Star & Garter, there’s cheap doubles all night!
Ahoy there! Check out our new EP The Inland Sea here - You can also listen and buy at www.theinlandsea.co.uk Enjoy xxx
“A call to arms from the perilous waters of the Island. Kinfolk cower in their homes as wild squalls rage fury on us. A far cry from the glassy seas and towering swells from which we profited only a few days ago. Respite cruelly prized from our grasp, our hopes of reprieve in calmer seas lie tattered, at least for now. Scathed but not scarred, we persist through relentless gales and cloudbursts on the fringes of the ocean, passing the church in the bay where many a reveler and mourner has been left stranded at high tide. Through fortune and fortitude we reach the shore and are greeted by warm fires, zestful ales and hearty tales shared with our good friend, (sadly soon to depart us). For the storm has abated and the bow has settled. We wipe our blinkered eyes, ravaged and weary; the majestic scenes enveloped by the Island in a blind rage, ever imprinted in our minds”...
The Inland Sea is inspired by the isle of Anglesey, a place that has always been close to The Mekkits’ hearts... It was recorded and produced at "Studio Los Mekkitos"... in Manchester, and will be followed next year with the ecclectic debut album!

Its been selling faster than we expected, and we currently only have around a quarter of our stock left - so we thought we'd better you all know that if you want a copy then now would be a good time to pick one up! If you buy it from the link above then you're buying it direct from us, the label aren't taking a cut - so its a bit like Fair Trade for struggling musicians.
International mail-order is available, just follow the instructions.
Thank you very much, and sorry for making a mess of your profile. If its any kind of consolation, we don't have a MySpace bot, so I'm leaving these comments the old fashioned way. Three -and-a-half thousand of them. My life is so exciting.
