Experience the ‘Benzedrine beat’ up close and personal, in all its savage glory, with Liverpool’s premier beat merchants, THE SHAKERS. This fab beat combo perform the hits, misses, B-sides and lost classics from the golden age of Merseybeat with a passion and energy not seen since the heady days of the ‘60s beat boom. As Merseybeat and Hamburg legend Kingsize Taylor said after seeing the boys in action, “I haven’t heard a sound like that since the Star-Club in 1962!”
Formed in 2005 by drummer Tony, these four lads from Liverpool authentically recreate the look and the sound of those Liverpool days and Hamburg nights, from the Cavern to the Star-Club, where the original Mersey sound was born. They have a monthly ‘lunchtime session’ residency at the Cavern Club and made their debut Beatleweek appearance in 2006 to a great reception. They were then given the honour of opening the festival in 2007 and again in 2008, as Liverpool’s beat ambassadors to the worldwide Beatleweek community. Over the last eighteen months, the boys have played far and wide with shows all over the UK and in Europe. Successful headline appearances at the Beatles Day festivals in Switzerland and Italy (including a follow-up appearance at Teatro Adriano in Rome where The Beatles also debuted in the city in 1965), the Atombeat Festival at Alloa Town Hall in Scotland and a barnstorming appearance at Liverpool's inaugural Beatles Day, have solidified their reputation for the best in beat.
With a new line-up, a theatre show, ROCKIN' & SHAKIN', about to tour the UK and more international stages offered for 2009, the boys are certainly in demand to represent Liverpool and it's former European Capital Of Culture status.
Their raw, energetic performances regularly leave audiences shakin' all over, so why not 'turn the hi-fi high and the lights down low', and twist 'n' shout with The Shakers.
Merseybeat......just like it used to be.
