that is inspired by a wide range of
influences -- pop, folk, psychedelia, funk,
hip-hop, jazz and indie rock.
He produces uplifting, effortless songs
with heart-felt lyrics or tongue-in-cheek
stories, depending on the mood of the
song.
Shakes plays all the instruments on his recordings and so he is able to
completely capture the personality of his material in a live setting.
Performing as a solo acoustic guitarist and using a sampler, he weaves
blues guitar around his songs, but never at the expense of the songs
themselves. As a live performer he is only satisfied when something
truly inspired takes place, and this tireless striving for the sublime
pays off for audiences that join him for the experience.
See, now, this here, this is just really cool music. I don't remember how in the hell I found Shakes (its a bit foggy;) but after taking another listen I am sure that my initial instinct was correct: Shakes is tops. Riviera has some nice guitar, Mommy has my strangely enthralled, Eyes is damn good, Xmas is not my cup 'o tea. All in all, Shakes is excellent.
