Shake the Roots are a Cheshire-based acoustic band who play an eclectic mix of music inspired by many genres including Folk, Celtic, Bluegrass, American Old Time as well as original songs composed by band member Pete Wakefield. Seven tracks on the CD were written by him.
Our first CD, "Don't move...!" was recorded at Orchard Studios, Oakhanger, Crewe, Cheshire in April 2008. All tracks were recorded live, with only harmony vocals being overdubbed, and fiddles on track 12.
The CD’s title comes from track 11, its’ full title being, “Don’t move, there’s a Penguin in the bed”, written by Pete after a friend had related to him a strange dream involving a Penguin! This is one of our most requested songs and whole audiences can often be seen chanting its’ title at the top of their voices!!
Much of our non-original material comes from the ‘Old Time’ American Folk genre, mixed in with the songs of Hank Williams, Steve Earle, Bob Dylan, The Beatles and others.
We play at festivals and Folk clubs all over the U.K; the highlight of 2008 being a performance at Glastonbury’s ‘Croissant Neuf’ Bandstand.
We spend most of our spare time going to gigs, large and small, so we may end up in the front row at one of yours!
Please come and see us if you're anywhere near our gigs, and feel free to contact us for any reason, especially if you want to buy our CD for £8.50 incl. postage!!
We're hoping to have a quiet winter so that we can plan our itinerary for next year. Maybe we'll see you at a few festicals in Spring/Summer 2009?!
Thanks for looking!
