About me:
I have been an Uptown landmark for over 70 years. Some people have called me "a neighborhood bar, downtown". I would like to point out the fact that I am infact "Uptown". Some call it the "lower" Hill Disrict... I call it home.
I was originally a wino bar and boarding house until Norm Schnurr bought me in the late 70's. The dumb-waiter on in the bar room on the 2nd floor is evidence of those bygone days. For many years only men were allowed to be served in the bar so I have a ginormous mens urinal to compensate for all of the extra "recycled beer". The back room and women's bathroom was a feeble attempt at drawing ladies into the bar... that attempt pretty much failed.
I am now owned by 2 gentlemen who have been established businessmen on 5th Avenue for years. Jimmy and Julian are great guys to know and hang-out with. And they would love to see you sometime soon.
I am excited about the upcomming Penguins season and soon-to-be-built arena. Many people have experienced Shale's in the past for the first time due to a concert, Pens game, or another event at the Civic Arena (I'm old school). I can't wait to meet even more people once the long-overdue arena is finally a reality.
I am known for my Litres of beer... possibly the largest single serving of beer you've ever seen. People always seem to love me even when they first walk in. I am part
